“Reedwooood-reedwooood-reeedwoood,” sounded from the bleachers on Saturday at the Marin Catholic lacrosse field. By 4:30 p.m., the Redwood and Marin Catholic boys’ varsity lacrosse teams had taken the field in a battle for the Marin County Athletic League (MCAL) Championship title. Powerful shots were made by senior Luke Elders, junior Ryan Carlson and senior Louie Comesso. The team utilized strong defenders such as junior Max Ross, junior Alex Kravanger and senior Jack Parsons. The help of irreplaceable goalkeeper senior Talis Stockton also enabled Redwood to secure a win.
Following an assist from junior Stanley Gaither, senior Zach Thoma scored, tying the game at 10-10, which pushed the players into dangerous territory: overtime. With a speedy goal from Elders shortly into overtime—his fifth goal of the game—the crowd stood up and once again, chanting echoed throughout the stadium while Giants fans flooded the field in celebration. With the MCAL Championship in hand, the Giants will play their next game in the North Coast Section (NCS) at home on May 7 against Clayton Valley Charter.
