THE WEEK AHEAD
In phonics this week, the children will be learning Set 3 sounds – g / o / c / k and learning to read the high frequency word – and. We will continue to practise blending sounds to read simple words, using the sounds we have learnt so far e.g. mat, dig, tap, cot. Please try to reinforce these sounds at home and have a go at making your own words using these sounds? Can you spot any of these sounds and letters in your story books at home?
In Maths, we will be exploring the composition of numbers 1-5. The pupils will represent numbers to 5 in a variety of ways e.g. using objects, fingers, numicon, tens frame, tally marks.
This week we will begin our next topic – Autumn Days. Please see below for more information.
During our Literacy sessions we will read our new key text – We’re Going on a Leaf Hunt, and will retell this story using words and actions. We will begin to learn about Autumn by exploring and talking about the objects in our Autumn Talk About Box. During our topic afternoons we will learn that Autumn is a season and about the changes that occur in our world during Autumn. We will learn about some celebrations that occur during autumn e.g. harvest, Halloween, bonfire night, Diwali.
In our Jigsaw session we will continue to think about Gentle Hands. We will talk about different classroom scenarios and how pupils could deal with these. During this session, pupils will be encouraged to reflect how some actions can hurt others, and that their own actions can affect other people. Pupils will be taught that if someone is doing or saying something they don’t like, then it’s ok to say - “Don’t do that, I don’t like it!”
Please remember to bring reading bags to school every day. If pupils have read 5 times, and their reading record book has been signed, then their name is entered into our reading raffle. Library books should be returned on Friday for changing.
Please login to our Purple Mash blog to find resources to support this learning at home.
Have a lovely week.
