South America Geography By: Alyssa, Max, Valantis

Location- 2 types of location, Relative which is what is around you and absolute which is the coordinates of your location.

South America is 8.7832° South and 55.4915° west. Peru which is just south of the equator is positioned in both the western and southern hemispheres.

Place- Not an exact location; a physical or man-made characteristic

Machu Picchu, Sacred Valley, Colca Canyon, Lacro Museum, Moray and Quelap are all places in Peru.

Region- An area of the earth that shares common characteristics of geography, culture and history.

The regions of South America are Caribbean North which include places like Colombia and Venezuela. Andean West which is where Peru and Bolivia is. Southern Cone where Argentina and Chile is. The last region of south America is Brazil.

Human- Environment interaction- Humans can adapt to, or alter, the physical environments to suit their needs.

In South America there is a lot of farming. Cash crops are coffee and cocoa (base ingredient in chocolate). Brazil is the largest exporter of Coffee and Cocoa.

Movement- Where people and ideas move from one place to another.

Farmers do not get enough money for farming resources so they try to move to the city. There is not enough space for people in the city which causes many issues.

Maps- There are five maps that each show different characteristics of each place.

This is a political map. It focus's on man-made features like nations and cities.
This is a qualitative map. It uses colors to show the different features in the area it is showing.
This is a physical map. A physical map is a map that focuses on landforms and bodies of water.
This is a cartogram map. This is a map that focuses on data present disorts by map size. This map shows that HIV/Aids is more common in other continents than South America
This is a flow line map. Used to show the movement of people, goods, and ideas
