From Boredom To Basketball

Basketball is played by many people nowadays, but it was created over 120 years ago. The person to invent the game was a Canadian man named Dr. James Naismith. He was born in 1861,he was a high school dropout who later in life got his education and got a degree in physical education. Dr. James Naismith created the game during a very savage winter where his students had to be kept indoors. The traditional indoor games bored, his students so he had to create something new. “The invention of basketball was not an accident. It was developed to meet a need. Those boys simply would not play 'Drop the Handkerchief.” -James Naismith. He never would've dreamed that this little indoor game would later turn out to be a highly successful sport played worldwide.

The Evolution Of Basketball Rules

The rules of Basketball have changed in multiple ways to form the sport we play today. Originally there were no rules on how many players could play on the Basketball court which created chaos on the court. This led to the NBA creating a rule that only allowed 5 players on the court for each team. Initially players were not allowed to be subbed in after the start of the game. This was later changed to allow players to sub in whenever. In the beginning shots that went successfully in counted as one point, however this was later changed to two. With old rules changing, the game became more exciting to watch so it attracted more crowds, which led to the sport becoming more popular
