"Queen B" By:Emily

I ran up the stairs feeling every emotion a human being could possibly feel in their short lifetime; Furious, appalled, irritated, bleak, a feeling of impending doom that hung over me in a dark stormy cloud. I picked up the phone and dialed my best friend Carleigh’s number, jabbing each number as hard as I could with my shaking pointer finger. I swear I was going to break the phone, and I wouldn’t care a bit.

“Pick up, pick up. C’mon” I whispered to myself with a tremor that was barely prominent in my voice.

“Hello?” Oh thank gosh.

I woke up to the obnoxious sound of my alarm clock. One of my eyes popped open, and then my other with slow deliberateness. I slowly rose from where I had been sleeping... On the floor?

I turned around and reached up to turn off my alarm clock. With groggy eyes, I read the time. 9:30am.

“Oh god I’m late!”

“Hannah you’re not going to school today.” He spoke with his frustratingly mellow tone.

“What? No, I can't miss school today, Ms. Mortenson is giving a math test today”

“We have something to tell you. Please sit down.” I obliged with an attitude unlike my own. He frowned as he noticed this, but continued.

“I grew up in a far away island named Juny, but I didn't exactly have a regular home there. I was, uh, a prince. Do you know why you never see grandma Judy? She is off ruling our kingdom in Juny.” A regal and practiced voice arose from the depths of his normally calm disposition.

“Thats awesome...” I said with a confused voice. not having a clue about what was going to hit me that next minute.

“Yeah it's great, but I didn't want to rule anymore after I met your mother, and grandma is getting quite old. So technically you are herror to the throne.”

“Huh? I wasn’t quite following”

“You're a princess”

“Hannah, please pack your bag, you and your dad's flight leaves in 3 hours”

“Wait, what about you?”

“Well,” she said someone has to watch the house well you two are gone for the next 6 months”

“What? No, I’m not leaving my friends or anyone”

“ Fine if you don’t want to stay after 3 weeks are up we can go home until your are officially 18 and hailey can rule until you’re ready”

“Fine, whatever I have to go call Carleigh,” I said as I stomped up the stairs”

I gave her the biggest hug.

“I’m so glad you’re here. We have so much to catch up on and learn”

After we get there she shows us the castle and all of the amazing things to do in Juny

A couple hours later grandma called us in for dinner. We all sat down at started to talk just about the island.

“So,” dad said. “Hannah do you want to rule yet? Or would you like to go back for 3 more years?”

The room was dead silent you could probably hear a pin drop.

I cleared my throat, and thought for a couple seconds. Everyone's eyes were on me, “I think I should wait 3 more years.” Haileys eyes brightened.

“Alright Hannah” said grandma. “thanks for being honest.”

That night my dad, Carleigh, and I packed up and flew back. And Hailey ruled, at least for 3 more years. Three years later, “it’s time” said dad.
