ASYMPTOTES - a graph where the line can not cross a certain point.

WHAT IS AN ASYMPTOTE?

An asymptote is a graphed line where the line cannot pass a certain point. It may look like this:

This is an asymptote where the line cannot pass 3.
WHAT ARE SOME EXAMPLES?

Asymptotes can look very different, depending on what point they cannot cross. Asymptotes are mainly separated into two categories, vertical and horizontal asymptotes.

This is a vertical asymptote, because the line that it cannot cross is vertical.
This is a horizontal asymptote, because the line that it cannot cross is horizontal.
ANYTHING ELSE?

Yes! Asymptotes are also used in architecture, the signature 'swoop' being popular. One company, called Asymptote Architecture ( funnily enough,) uses the 'swoop' in many of their buildings. The most famous of which being their winning entry for the Los Angeles Westcoast Gateway Competition, called 'Steel cloud'
