Week One Welcome to year 2!

We have had a really lovely first week back. The children have settled back into the swing of things very quickly after such a long time away from school.

Our riddle poem display (a work in progress).

In English we are reading Monkey Puzzle by Julia Donaldson. In the story the little monkey loses his mum. A kind butterfly offers to help the monkey find their mum, and so the monkey gives the butterfly clues as to what their mother looks like.

We had fun solving clues given in riddles, just like the butterfly did in the story. We even wrote our own ‘Who Am I?’ poems. Mosa was our star of the week because the riddle he wrote, completely independently, was fantastic! Independent work is a big thing in Year 2.

Mosa really impressed us with his writing.

In maths we have been learning about symmetry. We used mirrors to help us find the line of symmetry in shapes and pictures.

The children’s mantle this term hasn’t been revealed to them just yet, but the learning has begun! They really enjoyed baking (and eating) their own delicious bread rolls!
