The story of Moses

The Holy Zone

Three months after leaving Egypt, the Israelites have arrived at Mount Sinai. Moses is the name of the hero who has saved Israel from the Egyptians. After suffering 10 plagues, the final plague was too much for the Egyptians to bear. Pharaoh told Moses to take these people away and leave the land of Egypt. They celebrated the first Passover together in their homes before they left.

It has not been an easy journey for Moses and the Israelites. They have experienced many challenges along the way. It took them three months of trusting God to get to Sinai. They saw God’s work on the way when they were saved at the Red Sea and then God miraculously provided food and water, and they saw a prayerful victory over the Amalekites.

Eye witnesses at Sinai have reported amazing stories of God speaking through Moses to say that he has great plans for the nation of Israel. Seth Amos is one of the Israelites and recalls, “Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel: ‘You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself. Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.”

Stories of Moses asking people to get ready for a big announcement have been common. Apparently instructions were given that God told Moses to have the people wash their clothes and on the third day, God would return. When the people heard the sounds of trumpets, they were not allowed to touch the base of the mountain or they would die.

Abiah Jacob retold her story. “On the morning of the third day, Mount Sinai was completely covered in smoke and the whole mountain was shaking! The trumpet blasted louder and louder. It really scared everyone in the camp. Moses spoke and God went to the top of the mountain. He told Moses to come to the top of the mountain. God told Moses to go remind the people not to come on the mountain, and tell them they are not allowed to look on the face of God.”

God gave Moses rules He wants people to follow. The rules are called the 10 Commandments. The Commandments are written on both sides of 2 tablets of stone by God’s own finger. Reporters are still confirming the exact wording of the Commandments, however we are able to report that the Commandments include:

1. You shall have no other gods before Me.

2. You shall not make idols.

3. You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.

4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

5. Honour your father and your mother.

6. You shall not murder.

7. You shall not commit adultery.

8. You shall not steal.

9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour.

10. You shall not covet.

The Story of Noah

Noah - Hears The Call

There are many different views about where Noah lived before the flood but it is thought that it was most probably in the Middle East somewhere. Ararat in Turkey is the only geographical place mentioned in relation to Noah. The Bible tells us that Noah was a farmer, a man of the soil and was the first to plant a vineyard.

Noah pleased God but he was not without sin. “Then Noah began farming and planted a vineyard. He drank of the wine and became drunk” (9:18-29). Although all the people around him followed the evil in their hearts, Noah followed God. He loved and obeyed God with his whole heart. Noah was the only one that was righteous which means he did things right.

God spoke to Noah and told him that he could see that all the people on earth had become very bad that they had stopped thinking and acting of anything good. God was so disappointed that he wanted to get rid of every person and all the creatures that He had made. He wanted all the evil to stop.

So, God said to Noah, “I am going to put an end to all the people because the earth is full of fighting because of them. I am going to destroy them and the earth.” (DLTK’s Sites 1998 – 2017)

Noah - The Man Who Trusted God

God gave Noah instructions on how to build an Ark. He was told what kind of wood to use and how big to make the Ark. He also told him to put a door in the side of the Ark and to make it with three floors.

Noah’s faith in God meant that he took what God told him seriously. People teased Noah and called him a fool and thought he was crazy. Noah turned out to be the only sane man around.

God made an agreement with Noah which is called a covenant. A covenant is an agreement with a promise. God said that he would save Noah, his wife, and his three sons and their wives.

Noah did what God asked him to do. Noah showed faith by committing to gods calling and warning the people of the big flood that was coming. When the Ark was built, God gave Noah 7 days warning before the flood to get all the animals and food on the Ark. He said that he would send rain for 40 days and 40 nights. Everything on the earth dies that wasn’t in the Ark.

The earth was flooded for about 150 days. God sent a wind to help dry the earth and finally on the 7 month the Ark rested on the top of a mountain which is believed to be Mount Ararat. When the earth dried up enough God said to Noah and his family that they could get out of the Ark.

Noah built an altar to thank God for keeping them safe. God kept his promise and told Noah that he would never again curse the ground even if the people became very bad again. He then made another covenant with Noah and the animals that he would never bring a flood to kill all living creatures and destroy the whole earth again. (Insert bible reference)

Noah’s faith in God never failed. Each time God asked Noah to do something he did it. This is how he demonstrated his faith.

Noah and his family lived on farm, outside of the town. Him and his three sons used to farm. His family were the only people that still believed in God. One day Noah Didn’t feel right but Noah didn’t know god was leading him outside, God led Noah outside to get a calling from god through the starts in the sky, god asked Noah to build an ark to carry the animals of the world. People did not believe in Noah and mocked him and called him a fool or insane.
