The Museum Fünf Kontinente in Munich is currently showing a very interesting exhibition of the works by German contemporary painter Bernd Zimmer. Along the footsteps of Gauguin he spent some time on the Marquesas Islands in French Polynesia. He was fascinated by energy of the imagery of the islands.
The exhibition is beautifully curated by Dr. Hilke Thode-Arora and expands Zimmer's paintings by showing artefacts from the museum's rich Oceanic collection to illustrate the European fantasy of the South Seas paradise. At the end of the exhibition the visitor will even find a little corner showcasing Tiki pop culture curated by Sven Kirsten and Jochen Hirschfeld.
Mr. Kirsten also wrote a chapter in the Tikimania coffee table book that accompanies the event. The museum visited Jochen Hirschfeld's Munich office and chose several items from his collection. We are happy to see many of our Tiki friends being on display with their work and art. Tiki Lovers Rum was also happy to share parts of their rum camp. Which is an absolute honor. Once visitor restrictions loosen up we look forward to help organize a proper opening party for this amazing exhibition.
