Tena koutou katoa Chapel Downs whanau!

We hope that you had an enjoyable holiday with your family and friends. This is going to be an exciting and busy term.

A warm welcome to all our new students and their families who have started this term at Chapel Downs School. We hope your Chapel Downs journey will be one full of fun, engaging learning experiences, friends and life long memories.

This term students are loving carrying science investigations throughout the school.

At the end of last term we recognised our support staff for 'Support Staff' day. Chapel Downs School has a remarkable team who support our children. The dedication and hard work of our language assistants, caretaker and office staff cannot be underestimated. The school simply could not function without them. What always impresses me is the genuine passion they have for Chapel Downs School. They care about our children and they make a real difference everyday. No amount of thanks can truly express the appreciation we have for this team.

Maths Open Morning

I am pleased to let you know that we are holding a Maths Open Morning for Parents on Thursday 20th August from 9.00 am until 11am. This is an opportunity for you to see what your children are learning in Mathematics at the different levels throughout school. The morning will start with a small presentation in the school hall followed by class visits. Morning tea will be served in the hall at 10.30am.

We look forward to sharing our Maths learning with you on Thursday 20th August.

Enrollments

If your child is turning 5 in the next 12 months (born in 2016/2017) please ensure you enrol them as soon as possible. With the roll steadily growing at Chapel Downs this will enable us to keep a track of how many New Entrants we can expect in the future. Enrollment packs are available at the office. Our term three New Parent Information Morning will be held at 9.15am on Thursday 10th SEPTEMBER.

Term 2 Music - Share Your Talent Day

Last term the senior school children focused on solo and group performances during their music lessons with Miss Toops. They loved performing to a very encouraging senior school audience.

Year 6 Rafting Trip

As part of the Community Swim programme funded by the John Walker Find Your Field of Dreams Foundation our Year 6 children will have a session at the WERO Whitewater Park on Friday 28th August 2020. This is to familiarise children with moving water and how to be river safe. The children will get to experience river crossing in a fast flowing river and go whitewater rafting on the Grade 2 Tamariki River, both activities are with a guide.

The trip is being fully funded by a collaboration between Chapel Downs Primary School, WERO Whitewater Park, Swimgym, Counties Manukau Sport and the John Walker Find Your Field of Dreams Foundation. There is no cost to you for this amazing trip.

Children will travel by bus to and from the Whitewater Park. The session will last 2-2½ hours.

Camp Adair

Next month all of our Year 6 students will experience a three day camp as part of our annual Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) programme. EOTC programmes provide students with access to hands-on experiences that are not available inside the classroom.

A1 Gumboots

Do you have any gumboots that you don’t need anymore? A1 want your old gumboots for a planting project. Please drop any old gumboots off at the office or A1. Thank you 🥾

TRAFFIC SAFETY

School is Back – please remember to drive at a safe speed around our school. This makes it safer for everyone, and students love to be able to walk to school! Let’s all take the time to be kind to one another, walking to school if we can, and driving safely around schools. Please do not park on the yellow lines.

Ngā mihi nui
