DMD604 Challenges

This will be a page that goes through the challenges I've set myself for this project. Pictures will be uploaded & annotated to show my progress.

Challenge 1: Creating work that is successful

I will be creating work that will promote my work successfully and also showcasing myself within the designs for it to engage a target market. The other problem that needs addressing is creating diverse work that will also be practical.

When starting this project, I was told that I would need to define what success is for myself… to then realise that I had no idea, I hadn’t even thought about where my success comes from. To then google how to define success, this then just annoys me as it really makes me realise how reliant I am on the internet to give me all the answers & for it to define my success

In today's society, to have success is to have the best of everything as everything is a competition... but there are many people out there who are changing this, by showing that success

I believe my success lies in being happy with the work I have created and knowing that people can see my personality within it too. Really being able to understand where my success will come from is another story…

“Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light." Albus Dumbledore

I will be researching different selling sites to see which one is best of my designs & if that is the best way to create successful profits.

This worked so well because it was a style of designing that i'd never done before. The freedom to use my hands and create an idea that inspired newer pieces of work.

This is one of my favourite pieces that I have ever done, as it really allowed to be completely creative with the typography + the style of work. It has such eye-catching colours & text, I believe this really helps get the intended message across.

With this project, I decided to re-create the alphabet using some my Instagram photos with incorporating the breakup of line. I rather enjoyed making it as I was able to use my past-time of photography to make great work. This was a success of me as I had to think about the design in a completely different way .

This was my most technical piece to create, which meant I needed a lot of support ;) I believe it was successful due to it being fully vector and it tested my skills in

End result of this challenge - I want to have a collection of design pieces that I love that will be created into a portfolio book and then the work will be sold.

Challenge 2: Efficient Time Scale

I will do this by timing myself when creating work to see how long it takes and then looking into how I can improve this time or understand how to create a working system.

Another part of this project is to find out when is the best time for me to work on designs so I can find when I'm most efficient - I will do this doing creative work at different times throughout the days & recorded what I did & how successful it was.

Having a great balance between the amount of work to do & how much time you have is a difficult thing, unless you're a time lord. The best way to learn how to do this as a uni student is to either be smarter person or stupidly organised.

This timetable will need some adjusting, but I will have this set up on my phone too & will get notifications to remind me. Having everything written down has allowed me to see how much I need to put in to complete this project and do it on time.

This is my time efficiency from the 17th - 27th March. I think that it has really helped me understand when my best and worst times are for producing/creating work, as I really had to think about what works well for me. I can now use this method to help create my final major project.

End result of this challenge - I will use this timetable to keep track of my progress and make sure I am on time handing in work on time. I will keep up with the time efficiency task, as it will help in my future career and it will be more detailed.

Challenge 3: Creating a business from my final piece

I want to make this business idea successful and to understand what challenges I will face. I will learning how to create a successful social media page that will promote this work (using sites such as Instagram & Facebook)

This is my current 'Society6' page, I have uploaded a small range of designs from last year.

This is my current 'Society6' page, I have uploaded a small range of designs from last year

I started by creating mockups of some t-shirt design ideas & uploaded them both to Behance and Facebook. The reception that I got was amazing as I wanted to see & understand what pieces they thought worked well.

With this post I decide that I would ask my audience thought of the image size, as it allows for good feedback & allows me to get a feeling for what people preferred.

I thought that I would upload two different prints to start with, as I would be able to see if people would like these designs before bombarding them.

I feel like I may have bombarded people with lots of products with only building up a small customer hype, so I think that it meant people lost interest. From this I have learnt that I need to work on customer interest. I am going to create a Facebook group for this business so it doesn't get mixed up with my personal profile.

With this page I will look at how to build a 'buzz'

Last year, I created a health & fitness page to help me promote what I was doing. I can use this page to get an understanding for how these pages are effective & if I can take this information forward to help with the success of my new page.

The Overview tab gives you a 7-day snapshot of the most important activity on your Page.

As we can see there wasn't any activity on this page for quite a few months. This image underneath shows my recent posts and allows me to see how these post are being received by my members

Understand Your Reach: Posts that get more likes, comments and shares show up more in News Feed and are seen by more people. Posts that are hidden, reported as spam or cause people to unlike your Page reach fewer people. If you notice a spike or dip, look at what you posted that day to learn more about how you might have influenced your reach.

Compare Post Performance: Understand how people are responding to your posts to help you create content that your audience cares about. See how specific posts and types of posts perform so that you can focus your efforts on what works.

research into magento - &

My long term plans - With this project I really want to cut out the 'middle man' and independently run & sell my products through my own website. I would look into how to make my own website and how to run my sales through the site.

I will have to research into website design and selling widgets such as magento.
