Recently I've been making creative and impressionistic images at the lovely Westonbirt Arboretum in the south Cotswolds. Looking at more abstract viewpoints and subject matter and deliberately moving the camera around whilst the shutter is open is rather addictive, even if the results are highly unpredictable and almost unrepeatable. I find it an enjoyable antidote to the precision, care and controlled techniques I usualy deploy in 'tradtional' outdoor photography work. I won't stop making 'straight' images but the very occasional rush of excitement when an abstract image seems to leap off the page with a beguiling sense of intrigue, mystery and tapestry of colour probably means I'll be doing a few more like this.
