Dwarf Planets, nobody really pays attention to them because, well, they're dwarf planets. They're smaller and farther away from the other planets and the sun. They are like the nerds of the solar system.

Pluto

Clyde Tombaugh discovered Pluto on February 18 1930. Did you know that Pluto has five moons? Their names are Charon, Nix, Kerberos, Styx and Hydra. Pluto was named after the ancient roman god of the underworld all because of an 11 year old girl in England. Since Pluto was the roman god of the underworld, the planet’s main moon, Charon, is named after the ferryman who carries the dead souls across the river Styx into the underworld. A day on Pluto is 6.4 Earth days. Pluto is the biggest dwarf planet.

"I've always liked Saturn. But I also have some sympathy for Pluto because I heard it's been downgraded from a planet, and I think it should remain a planet. Once you've given something planetary status it's kind of mean to take it away." - Jared Leto "Pluto, are favourite dwarf planet since 2006" - Google

Eris

Michael E. Brown, Chad Trujillo and David L. Rabinowitz all discovered Eris on January 5 2005. Eris was named after a greek goddess of strife and discord. Eris has one moon. This moon is called Dysnomia after the greek goddess of lawlessness who was the daughter of greek goddess Eris. A day on Eris is 25.9 hours. Eris is the second biggest dwarf planet.

Ceres

Ceres is the smallest dwarf planet. An italian astronomer Giuseppe Piazza discovered and named Ceres in early 1801. A day on Ceres is 9 hours. Ceres is named after the goddess of growing plants, harvest, and motherly love. Ceres is the closest dwarf planet to the sun.

Haumea

Michael E. Brown and Jose Luis Ortiz Moreno discovered Haumea on December 28 2004. Haumea is the fourth biggest dwarf planet. Haumea was named after the Hawaiian goddess of childbirth. A day on Haumea lasts 3.9 hours. Haumea has two moons named Hi’iaka and Namaka.

Makemake

Michael E. Brown, Chad Trujillo and David L. Rabinowitz all discovered Makemake on March 31 2005. Makemake was named 3 years after it was discovered. Makemake has one moon nicknamed MK 2. Makemake is the third biggest dwarf planet. Makemake is named after the god of fertility in Rapanui mythology. It takes Makemake 309.9 years to orbit the sun.
