The Baker Blast September 12, 2021

This week in ELA classes, students had the opportunity to participate in a presentation with middle grade author, Lindsay Currie. During the interactive virtual visit, students learned the power of research when writing. Currie said, “The more you dig and the more you uncover, the more ideas you have.” Students were also reassured that all writers need revision and had the chance to preview her latest book, What Lives in the Woods. The novel, which will be out on Tuesday, September 14th, takes place in Saugatuck, MI and follows a strong female protagonist that explores bravery, friendship, and family. It’s the perfect read for the upcoming Halloween season!

Baker Middle School Book Purchase Discount

We know how important it is to put books in the hands of students, so we are giving families the chance to purchase their own copy of the book at a discounted price. We’ve partnered with local bookstore, The Book Beat, and paperback copies can be ordered for $6.77 (including tax). Interested families should complete the order form and pay through SchoolPay by Monday, September 13, 2021. When the books arrive, they will be delivered to the students during their ELA class. More information is on the form below.

IM Sports/Club Form

Students interested in clubs and sports are required to pay a fee. The IM sports/club fee is $50. Payments will be completed using our electronic transaction service SchoolPay. Making this onetime payment provides unlimited access to all intramural sports and clubs for the entire school year. Making the payment early in the year will provide your student access to try a variety of different activities as they identify their interests. Please have your student pick this form up in the office.

Free & Reduced Lunch Form

All students in the Troy School District will receive meals for free this year. If there are any families that were eligible for receiving benefits from the Food Assistance Program (FAP) or the Family Independence Program (FIP), we highly recommend that you still complete this form for the 2021-2022 school year. Eligible families will receive waivers for clubs and athletics to either reduce the cost or cover the costs completely. This assistance can only be acquired through the completion of the Free and Reduced Lunch form. Please click on the link above to access the form.

School Pay

All students in the Troy School District will receive meals for free this year. We do offer additional snack items and beverages that students can purchase during breakfast and lunch. As a part of our mitigation strategy for contact free transactions, we are encouraging families to utilize our electronic transaction service called School Pay.

SchoolPay handles all parent, community, and staff payments from an easy-to-use, fully self-service interface. You can add money to your student's account using the link above. We use this system for most school transactions, including iPad insurance, field trip payments, etc.
