Tattoos on the Heart A presentation by Maddie Kielty

Introduction

Father Greg spent the summers of 1984 & 1985 at Dolores Mission Church in Los Angeles, as an associate pastor. Los Angeles is the gang capital of the world. In a parish meeting they decided to allow Father G to help gang members that wanted to leave the gang life. They made Homeboy Industries in the summer of 1992.

Chapter 1: God I Guess

The theme of this chapter is realizing that God is with you each day. Sometimes admitting that takes longer for others. My favorite story was with Bill putting his father to bed. This showed how much his father loved him.

Chapter 2: Dis-Grace

The theme of this chapter is the Lord comes to us disguised as ourselves we just have to learn to pay attention. My favorite story is the story of Lula and his ribbon from school.

Chapter 3: Compassion

The theme of this chapter is learning to have compassion for others. For the former gang members and everyone, having compassion for an original enemy is hard to do. Y favorite story is about the junior high kid that learned not to pick on girls. That story is relatable.

Chapter 4: Water, Oil, Flame

The theme of this chapter is sacraments. Without water, oil, and flame you can't perform certain things. The church has a specific way of doing things and those are some of the required materials. My favorite story was of Miguel. He cooked a turkey on Christmas with homies.
