Application, Exploration and Realisation in Art and Design

Aim and purpose

Unit 6 - Application, Exploration and Realisation in Art & Design

To achieve Unit 6 - P2

You will need to generate ideas that meet your brief, recording different ideas and refining ideas using peer feedback. Your ideas will need to be evaluated using annotation.

To achieve Unit 6 - P3

You will need to experiment with a range of different materials, techniques and equipment when creating experiments in your chosen workshop. You will need to create a detailed Health & Safety post explaining the risks and precautions you have taken.

To achieve Unit 6 - P4

You will need to annotate and evaluate all your experiments, explaining artists influences, use of media and techniques to create visual effects. Also examining your work to highlight areas for improvement and development.

To achieve Unit 6 - M2

You will also need to show initiative exploring techniques, experimenting with artists techniques, combining effects and evaluating outcomes.

To achieve Unit 6 - M3

You will need to organise all your development producing a sample book to keep practical experiments neat, while also creating a detailed PORTFOLIO uploading photographs of your experiments and annotating them.

To achieve Unit 6 - M4

You will need to produce outcomes that meet your brief and show you can skilfully use a range of techniques within your specialist workshop, all work should be annotated to explain your understanding of the work you’ve produced.

To achieve Unit 6 - D1

You will need to develop a highly challenging brief, independently experimenting with a broad range of techniques in workshops, developing ideas and experimenting with a range of reference images.

creating your portfolio

Your portfolio should be a combination of images, text, commentary, evaluation. It should aim to reflect all the work you have done to create your final piece. Remember, this unit is worth 20 CREDITS so the volume of work you need to produce will be greater than for other units

You need to evidence:

  • Background research including sources of inspiration
  • Design experimentation - sketches, images, design development work. All the stages and thinking you have done to create your initial design idea
  • An evaluation of how your design idea meets you brief
  • Materials experimentation - a series of experiments and evaluations to show how you have developed your final piece. How have you selected materials? How have you selected the construction method? Has it worked? This could be presented as a series of videos with commentary
  • Review and evaluation of final piece - how effective is you final outcome? Does it met the brief? What has worked particularly well? What would you do differently?

ALL THIS SHOULD BE PRESENTED DIGITALLY USING ADOBE SPARK!!!

You can create a glideshow.

This would be useful to present your research and could also be used to analyse and evaluate your design development or experiments

This artwork explores the work of Richard Deacon. I wanted to create a piece with sinuous shapes and curves using perforated metal. I looked at the shapes and patterns and colours in this piece of work and created my own artwork to stimulate my creative thought process and to lead to the development of my design ideas. I really like the colours and shapes and the black outlines so I am going to incorporate this into my design

You can also insert videos as well as creating posts and memes. And you can insert web pages.

FIRST THINGS TO DO

  1. OPEN AN ADOBE SPARKS ACCOUNT
  2. CREATE A PAGE - THIS WILL SUMMARISE YOUR SELF-DEVELOPED BRIEF AND THE INITIAL EXPLORATORY WORK YOU HAVE DONE SO FAR. UPLOAD SOME IMAGES AND YOUR PROJECT PROPOSAL
  3. GO ONTO MOODLE AND DOWNLOAD THE PROJECT TIMELINE DOCUMENT. PRODUCE A DETAILED PROJECT TIMELINE WITH TARGET DATES FOR COMPLETION OF KEY TASKS AND UPLOAD THIS ONTO YOU ADOBE SPARKS PAGE
  4. CONTINUE TO ADD TO YOUR ADOBE SPARKS PAGE. THINK OF IT LIKE A BLOG - ANY TIME YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY OR A NEW THOUGHT ABOUT YOUR PROJECT, ADD IT TO YOUR PAGE. YOU CAN ALSO USE PINTREST TO CREATE MOOD BOARDS ETC. IF YOU HAVE AN I PHONE YOU CAN DOWNLOAD THE APP AND UPDATE YOUR PAGE AS YOU GO ALONG

YOU MIGHT CONSIDER ADDING DIFFERENT PAGES FOR DIFFERENT STAGES OF YOUR PROJECT

  • INITIAL RESEARCH AND DEVELOPING THE BRIEF
  • BACKGROUND RESEARCH
  • DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
  • DESIGN EXPERIMENTATION (USE LOTS OF VIDEOS WITH COMMENTARY FOR THIS)
  • IMPLEMENTATION AND CREATION OF FINAL PIECE
  • FINAL ANALYSIS AND EVALUATION

COMPLETE THIS AND YOU WILL HAVE A PROFESSIONALLY PRESENTED PORTFOLIO OF WORK
