Teacher Student Relationships Homer's the odyssey, Rick Riordans Percy Jackson: The Lighting Thief, and Eminem, Dr. Dre, and Skylar Grey's I need a doctor.

Some very in depth teacher student relationships occurred in The Odyssey by Homer, Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, and Eminem and Dr. Dre’s song “I need a Doctor”, these directly relate to student teacher relationships in Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist. Between Omen's, Unhuman, Characters, and People.

Through all the media there was various examples of Omen’s Teaching various people the way on their journey. Such as Odysseus and the hostility on the path to get home(Chapter 13), Percy Jackson and the violent ocean beckoning him to start his journey, "Are you really the son of Poseidon?" "Well, yeah." This was Grover and Percy talking after he discovered his power in the storm. Then Dr Dre saving Eminem from the low point in his life and inspiring and supporting him. "All I know is you came to me when I was at my lowest You picked me up, breathed new life in me, I owe my life to you But for the life of me, I don't see why you don't see like I do" Sang by Eminem in the beginning of the song. This relates to The Alchemist by how Santiago learns from Omens that he can travel and gain knowledge and finally find his treasure was right with him the whole time “In order to find the treasure, you will have to follow the omens. God has prepared a path for everyone to follow. You just have to read the omens that he left for you" (Coelho, 29).

In the stories there were also unhuman beings advising the characters in their decision making, such as Athena talking to Odysseus about how he can right his position with Poseidon. 'Hear us, Poseidon, who circle the earth, and do not begrudge us the accomplishment of all these actions for which we pray you. First of all to Nestor and to his sons grant glory, and then on all the rest of the Pylians besides confer gracious recompense in return for this grand hecatomb, and yet again grant that Telemachus and I go back with that business done for which we came this way in our black ship.' (Homer, 3.55-61). All the nymphs talking to Percy Jackson, "They told me not to worry about it. They'd had centuries of practice running away from lovesick gods." Percy Reciting a Tree Nymph informing him that he would be slower than them. Finally Eminem's internal feeling that after Dr. Dre’s dark point in his life where he lost his son and went through depression that he could revive the hip hop artist that he was and is."But it just dawned on me you lost a son, demons fighting you, it’s dark. Let me turn on the lights and brighten me and enlighten you" Eminem in the intro to the song. This relates to Santiago’s journey where he got advice from Urim and Thummim. "After giving Santiago two stones for his journey, Melchizedek tells him the story of the wisest man in the world," (Coelho, 29) They don't advice him directly not directly but they helped him make decisions through his travels, and eventually leading him to where he wants to go.

Eminem and Dr. Dre

The stories all had their teachers, and students and how they changed, like how Odysseus listened to all the people that appeared to inform him of things 'Hold back, men of Ithaca, from the wearisome fighting, so that most soon, and without blood, you can settle everything.' (Homer, 24.531-532), and how Percy Jackson took Mr. Brunner's advice to kill the Fury that Mrs. Dodd’s had become and begin his story "A hero can go anywhere, challenge anyone, as long as he has the nerve" Chrion(Mr. Brunner) to Percy when he looses faith.. How Dre came to Eminem in his dark time, where he was about to lose faith in his career and lose his wife and daughters, and now it’s his turn to save Dre in his time of loss "All I know is you came to me when I was at my lowest. You picked me up, breathed new life in me, I owe my life to you" Eminem in the first part of the song. The human teachers on Santiago’s Personal Legend are The King, the Crystal Salesman and the Englishman advising him on choices to make as he travels. "Maktub," the merchant said, finally. "What does that mean?" "You would have to have been born an Arab to understand," he answered. "But in your language it would be something like, 'It is written.'" This was dialogue between the merchant and Santiago advising him, that everything is not as it appears.

So in conclusion, all these books easily relate through teacher student relationships and how they increase the quality of the book and how the reader understands it and how The Alchemist relates to Homer's the odyssey, Rick Riordans Percy Jackson: The Lighting Thief, and Eminem, Dr. Dre, and Skylar Grey's I need a doctor.
