MCNAIR ACADEMIC AND INFINITY ADMISSIONS

Admission to McNair Academic HS and Infinity Institute is selective and based on student academic performance, their score on the PSAT 8/9, and a written application (among other things). This year we will use the PSAT 8/9 as the admissions test for these schools. The test is being given to all Jersey City Public School students in their schools on October 19. Students not attending Jersey City Public Schools who wish to apply to McNair Academic or Infinity Institute should take the PSAT 8/9 at their own school if it is administered there, or they can take it at MS 7 on October 19. You must be registered to take the test. Contact your school for information. Students are also required to submit an application which will be available on November 1 and will be due December 1.

OPEN HOUSE AT MCNAIR ACADEMIC HS

On Thursday, October 27, from 6:30-8 p.m., McNair Academic High School will hold its first ever open house for prospective students and their families. The evening will include a brief presentation in the gymnatorium, followed by a club and activity fair and a student-led tour. “McNair Academic has a long-standing tradition of academic achievement, and we also have a wide array of extracurricular activities and a strong athletic program,” said Principal Kate McCabe, who believes the open house is a great opportunity for both Jersey City natives and newcomers to learn more about all that McNair has to offer. The teachers and students are thrilled to welcome applicants and their families as they consider applying to be a part of the class of 2021! Registration preferred at mcnairadmissions@gmail.com

WEEK OF RESPECT CONVEYED AT PS 33

PS 33 joined schools across New Jersey in recognizing the Week of Respect. Ms. Soriero, Anti-Bullying Specialist at PS 33, arranged for an array of activities to raise awareness and reinforce the important messages that the Week of Respect is meant to convey. Guest readers spoke of anti-bullying, a student-created bulletin board displayed positive notes in the formation of a rainbow, and "The Ned Show" encouraged a "do your best" attitude. The week concluded with a courtyard dance to the empowering anthem “Fight Song” and an "Anti-Bullying Pledge" writing contest open to all 4th grade students. Congratulations to our winners: Alyssa Sanchez, Javen Concepcion, and Chad Banks.

PRE-K SPEND-A-DAY AT PS 3

The Conwell Tigers PS 3 have started a new intiative down on Bright Street inviting parents from each grade to come "Spend-A-Day" in the classroom observing what their children get to do each day. The 2-hour experience has offered opportunities for parents to see the amazing experiences that the children have in school each day. Grades 1-5 "Spend-A-Day" is scheduled for October 28th. The principal, Mr. Mischel, feels that it's extremely important for parents to see, first-hand, what a child's experience is like. "Parents entrust the well being of their children to us everyday. Some children arrive at 7 AM and don't leave untl 6 PM. I wanted to open the doors to parents so they have that opportunity to see how our classrooms look and feel for their children. It's kind of like Open House 2.0."
