Can Jesus help us when we start at a new school? Introduction and theme one: friendship

Introduction: Welcome to this journey to explore if Jesus has anything to say to us as we start a new school - specifically senior/high school. We will be looking at 5 key themes: friendship, tough times, temptation, justice and being the best you can. We will then bring it all together as we look at a 'Jesus toolkit'. I hope that you enjoy going through this and find it helpful to you.

Theme one: Friendship

Jesus was a good friend to those he met. He stood by the poor and the weak and helped people to find their way. He had some really good things to say as well:

  1. "The second is this; Love your neighbour as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these' from Mark 12 v 31. Jesus includes friends as neighbours - so love them!
  2. Jesus also said "This is my command: Love one another the way I loved you. This is the very best way to love. Put your life on the line for your friends." This is found in John 15 v 12-13 (Message). This is Jesus encouraging us to give ourselves fully to our friendships. Love and give!

Something to do: Looking back: Think of all your old friends from your old school and remember them, look out for them as you start at your senior school and don't forget them. You've been through a lot together. Keep in touch! Looking forward:  As you look to making new friends - think on the above words and watch the below short video that gives you verses from the book of Proverbs. Try and make a note of some of the things that stand out for you and how you might use what you have learnt as you go about making new friends.
