The University of Oklahoma A year in Review

In 2016, the Sooner Family grew.

The incoming freshman class was the largest, highest academically ranked and most diverse class in Sooner history!

We celebrated our diversity with events across campus.

Second Annual Indigenous Peoples' Day
The International Bazaar
OU Día de Los Muertos Street Festival

With a 90% freshman-to-sophomore retention, OU set an all-time record.

This achievement placed OU among the top universities in the nation.

Once classes started, students got to work.

Undergraduate and graduate students seized opportunities to research, write and publish academic articles in different disciplines.

Undergraduate biology students published professional manuscripts on new species.
An OU-led study conducted new research on a prehistoric Himalayan population.

A team of OU researchers discovered more effective treatments for MRSA with less detrimental side effects.

NASA gave OU a grant to study and enhance our understanding of carbon exchanges and vegetation health on earth.

While students made strides in research, they didn't forget to enjoy campus life.

Homecoming in 2016 was the largest and most inclusive yet!

Students innovated the Homecoming experience with new traditions like the Homecoming Bash and Glow Wild.
Our awesome alumni came home to Sooner Nation.
We cheered the Sooners on to a Homecoming victory.
And of course the Mums on the South Oval were flawless!

In 2016, Sooners also gave back.

Students danced for the Children's Miracle Network at Soonerthon.
Big Event sent volunteers out to serve the community.
Relay for Life raised money for cancer research.

OU built new Residential Colleges.

They will provide community-style living opportunities to sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

In December and May, we celebrated our grads at commencement.

One of the most rewarding moments in an OU student's college career, commencement is the culmination of years of hard work as a student.

With caps, gowns and fireworks, we sent our grads into the world to do great things.

So here's to the new year.

A chance to grow alongside each other.

And embrace opportunities to learn new things and broaden our worldview.

Thanks for a great year, Sooners!
