The white rose was the symbol of the House of York. The War of the Roses was fought between the House of York and the House of Lancaster. They were fighting over who should be king.

White roses for the House of the York

The red roses stand for the House of Lancaster. The War of the Roses lasted for 30 years and resulted in a new royal house, the Tudors taking control.

Henry VI

Henry VI - Defeated Richard III to end the Wars of the Roses in 1487. Founder of the house of Tudor.

Edward IV

Edward IV is declared king of England and Queen Margaret flees to France. Edward IV dies and his twelve-year-old son, Edward V, becomes king. However, his uncle, Richard III, has him sent to the Tower of London where he disappears from public view. Richard III becomes king of England.

Richard III - Brother of Edward IV, he took the throne from his nephew Edward V.

Henry Tudor defeats Richard III at the Battle of Bosworth on August 22, 1485. Richard III is killed and Henry is declared king.

The House of Tudor, Led by Henry VII, defeats the House of York at the Battle of Stoke Field. This brings the Wars of the Roses to an end.
