Monkton Park Newsletter Friday 7th February 2020

A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to complete the Parent View questionnaire as part of our Ofsted inspection this week. We were so thrilled to see 98% of the 103 people that responded would recommend the school. Throughout the two days the pupils were a credit to all (they got a well deserved extra play on our field today). Our report is likely to be published within the next 4 weeks and we will of course let you know as soon as it is available.

Violin & recorder assembly

Well done to all the children who took part in the violin and recorder assembly yesterday. We're not quite sure how Mrs Tyson is able to teach the children to such a high level every single year but once again our musicians performed a brilliant concert.

Work of the Week

Congratulations to Catherine from Fieldmice class

Parking

Please can we remind parents to be mindful of where they park their cars at drop off and pick up. We have received a number of complaints about parents parking in front of driveways, on corners and parking in the private garage spaces on Downham Mead. Please can we also ask parents not to park or pull into the school driveway. This is for all of the children's safety.

Willow Sculptures

Today Fieldmice and Otters' have enjoyed the Willow Weaving sessions. On Monday Rabbits (am) and Fieldmice (pm) will have their turn.

The children will need to bring wellie boots or outdoor shoes and coat.

Parent volunteers would be welcome to help, please see the class teacher if you would like to come along.

We would like to thank Borough Lands for funding the Willow Sculpture sessions.

Forest Schools

Forest Schools will be changing days, It will now take place every Tuesday afternoon instead of Wednesdays.

World Book Day Information - Thursday 5th March 2020

Dressing Up

This year we would like the children to dress up as their favourite character or their favourite book. This can be any book and there is no class theme.

Ideas from last years World Book Day

Book Swap

For World Book Day we would also like the children to take part in a Book Exchange where they bring in an old book and swap it for another one. The children will be able to swap their books within their class and with other children in their year group. The teachers will ensure all children who bring in a book get the chance to swap theirs with a suitable alternative!

Reading Rocks Competition

Some Rocky ideas!

Finally, we would like the children to take part in Reading Rocks Competition

Paint a Rock at home with your favourite book front cover or your favourite character we can then hide these around MP for a treasure hunt. There will be a prize for the best rock at FS, KS1 and KS2.

These can be painted in normal pens or paint, we will spray them with varnish to protect them.

Please bring these into school on Thursday 5th March.

We feel these activities are a great way to encourage the children’s love of reading and look forward to you supporting us on World Book Day.
