How-to: Bridge Building KYlee DeaRing

Materials Needed

  • 291 popsicle sticks
  • Elmer's liquid glue
  • 3 empty water bottles
  • 4 rubber bands
  • Newspaper
Support Chains
  1. Place large newspaper down on a flat surface.
  2. Take one popsicle stick and place a decent amount of glue on the last one half of an inch on the popsicle stick.
  3. Next, glue another popsicle stick to the previous stick overlapping.
  4. Repeat steps 2-3 until you have a chain of 32 inches. (Should look like step 1 picture)
  5. Now, flip 32 inch chain over.
  6. Glue popsicle sticks across the 32 inch chain so that the sticks are overlapping. (Should look like step 2 picture)
  7. Lastly, repeat steps 2- 6 so that you have four 32 inch support chains.
  8. Let dry overnight.
Sides
  1. Place large newspaper down on flat surface.
  2. Lay two support chains horizontal, parallel, even, and about 4 inches from each other.
  3. Next, place decent amount of glue on both ends of one popsicle. Place this stick straight up and down on very far side of both support chains, connecting the support chains together.
  4. Repeat step 3 on the other far end of the support chains, to firmly connect the chains together.
  5. Every 4 inches, glue a popsicle stick straight up and down, connecting the support chains together.
  6. Between each straight up and down popsicle stick, glue a triangle. Make sure to alternate the triangle upside down and right side up every other time. If not done right, bridge will not be sturdy or hold as much weight.
  7. Lastly, repeat steps 2-6 to make two separate sides of the bridge.
  8. Let dry overnight.
Top
  1. Lay large newspaper on flat surface.
  2. Take the two sides previously made and place them straight up horizontally and evenly by each other.
  3. Next, evenly place three water bottles in between the two sides of the bridge.
  4. To ensure the water bottles and the two sides stay, evenly add four rubber bands around the sides of the bridge. If not done right, it will be extremely difficult to create a top to your bridge.
  5. Now, glue 15 popsicle sticks vertically and evenly across the top of the bridge.
  6. Next, add a 32 inch line of popsicle sticks horizontally across the popsicle sticks previously placed down. Make sure to place the line as close to the right side on the top of the bridge as possible.
  7. Then, add another 32 inch line of popsicle sticks horizontally across the popsicle sticks previously placed down, going down the middle of the top of the bridge.
  8. Lastly, add another 32 inch line of popsicle sticks horizontally across the popsicle sticks previously placed down. Make sure to place the line as close to the left side on the top of the bridge as possible.
  9. Let dry overnight.
Bottom
  1. Place large newspaper on flat surface.
  2. Turn bridge upside down so that the bottom of the bridge is on top.
  3. Next, place small amount of glue on both ends of a popsicle stick. Place stick evenly and vertically on the bridge.
  4. Lastly, repeat step 3 ten times, making sure every popsicle stick is an equal and even distance apart.
  5. Let dry overnight.
