ECONOMIC SITUATION

During the last year the economic situation of Cullera has improved remarkably. Recently, the local government has presented the final result of the 2016 budget that has left a surplus of 2.4 million euros and a reduction of debt below 100 points. In the past it was 180 points.

Unemployment continues to decline in our municipality although at a slow pace. At the moment (April 2017) there are 1,700 jobseekers in Cullera, almost 1,000 less than during the worst years of the economic crisis.

TOURISM

The recovery of tourism industry has been consolidated. The last figures of hotel occupancy rate during Easter left percentages above 90%, the best figures in the last decade. These numbers consolidate the trend of the two previous summers and suppose a significant growth of the sector.

Cullera is currently experiencing a significant growth in international tourism, especially French and German visitors, and has become a favorite destination for lovers of caravanning.

TRANSPARENCY AND CITIZENS PARTICIPATION

The City Council of Cullera has approved in recent months two important regulatory ordinances on Transparency and Citizen Participation with the objective of moving towards a more accessible Administration information for citizens and creating processes of participation of the neighbors in the decisions of management of the city.

WELFARE

The local government has continued with its recovery of social rights after the years of the economic crisis. On the one hand, it has increased by 1.5 million euros the resources destined to the social protection of the people at risk of poverty. In addition, it has recovered the aid to the transport for students that was suppressed by the previous local government. As far as the Elderly concerns, the city council has eliminated the rate of 1,200 euros that users of the Elderly Residence had to pay. Now, they only pay according to their income thanks to an agreement with the regional government.

CULTURE

Since November Cullera has a renovated events room at the Culture's House, an important investment that has made it possible to modernise the main space for the performing arts in our municipality.

NATURAL DISASTER

Winter was especially hard on the weather. Cullera has suffered three maritime storms and several floodwaters of the Xúquer river that devastated our beaches in December, January and March. Fortunately, the rapid reaction of the City Council has allowed the regeneration of these natural spaces, which have returned to their natural state.

MUSIC

One of the events that we are most proud of this year in the field of music has been the victory of the Young Orchestra of the Santa Cecilia Musical Society in the 1st Contest Bankia de Orquestas de la Comunitat Valenciana. With this new triumph, our musical societies continue to position themselves among the best in Spain and Europe.

LOCAL PARTIES

Recently, in Cullera we have celebrated our Local Fiestas Mayores and Fallas. We are really satisfied with the result because this year we have opted for a more varied and participative programming that has been supported by the public with more than 20,000 people who have participated in the main festive events.
