DOLLARWAY MATTERS NEWSLETTER APRIL 2019: STUDENTS, PARENTS & COMMUNITY

SUPERINTENDENT'S CORNER

Dear Dollarway Family,

It's hard to believe that we are nearing the end of another school year, but we remain focused on preparing our students for all that lies ahead. The Arkansas Department of Education released the 2018 Report Cards for schools, districts, and the state on April 15, 2019. Although concerned, I am still encouraged and hopeful because I know the great progress that we are making here in the Dollarway School District such as setting records at the elementary school with the number of readers at the K-2 grade levels as well as our students at both the middle and high school winning academic honors over other students in our state and region.

We are making gains, but still have a long way to go and I am confident that the new research based strategies will result in gains in the upcoming school year. To learn more about these strategies and to share feedback and ideas on the upcoming school year, please join us for our DSD Stakeholder Session on May 21, 2019 @ 6:00 p.m. at Robert F. Morehead Middle school. I am proud of the students and staff in our district. To access the information visit: http://www.arkansased.gov/ and click on the Learn More option. We have a lot planned in the next few weeks, testing, end of the year banquets & award programs, athletic events, prom, graduation planning and more. Thank you for your continued support!

EAST NIGHT OUT

RMMS recently hosted EAST Night Out (ENO). This was a great opportunity for parents, families, and the public to experience students collaborating to make a difference in their school and community through student-led, service-based, and technology driven projects. Students showcased the different types of technology and projects they have been working on. Some of the project stations were: Green Screen/Photo Shoot station, Heat Pressing Station for T-Shirts, ARGIS Mapping with Gabby & Aryah, and much more. A number of parents, community members and staff were present to support our awesome students. A BIG THANKS to Coach Jones, EAST Facilitator for making it happen!!!! #engagementmattersAR

STUDENTS ATTEND EAST CONFERENCE

EAST STUDENT OF THE YEAR (ariah redix)

Ariah Redix (pictured left) is a 9th Grader in her second year of EAST. She has been working on her Bus Transportation project for two years. Along the way she faced many challenges that she used as a spring board to become better. Her current project was created using (ARGIS ONLINE) which allowed her to look at the bus schedule time and how many miles were driven a day/week. During her presentation at EAST NIGHT OUT the superintendent took notice, and is considering using the data to improve district transportation needs. Ariah is an example of what an EAST student is and should be. Ariah and her teammate Gabrieal will be entering their Bus Transportation Map along with 2 other Mapping Projects into the Regional & State Mapping Competition in April.

Just enjoying the moment!
Mr. Carl Suggs is a 9th Grader in his first-year of EAST, he has taken art to another level. Carl was recently chosen to be a participant in Colorful Classroom: Dreamers Dream Dinner & Theater on March 3 at the Elks Lodge in Pine Bluff, AR where someone purchased his artwork for $100. He is truly an asset to Cardinals @ EAST Robert F. Morehead and has truly served the school and community with pride. Carl's artwork is displayed below.
