October 17, 1979, it was made for the purpose of establishing policy for, administers and coordinates most federal assistance to education.It assists me, the president, in executing my education policies for the nation and in implementing laws enacted by Congress. It provides high quality education to pre-k and higher levels of instruction. It ensures that everyone has the opportunity to get an affordable, world class education. In addition to that, it also works to help the students and to make sure that they are in a safe environment.

Job Requirements

College courses; associate's or bachelor's preferred, training and professional certification required by some employers, 3% for secretaries and administrative assistants.

Performance Improvement Officer: Serves as the principal advisor to the Deputy Secretary and other agency leadership on all issues within the Department pertaining to compliance with the Government Performance and Results Modernization Act of 2010. Salary: $124,406.00 to $187,000.00

Education Research Analyst: The incumbent plans, develops, and conducts education research activities within one or more assigned specific functional or specialized area of education that is supported by the National Center for Special Education Research. Salary: $77,490.00 to $100,736.00

AmeriCorps - National service programs provide opportunities to tutor and mentor youth, build affordable housing, teach computer skills, clean parks and streams, run after-school programs, and help communities respond to disasters.
