Ethan's carving By: Ethan

This is the first prototype of my carving. A simple drawing in Adobe Photoshop, this would have carved well. But I felt like we could make it a little more mine. I wanted to show the idea of lightning as this powerful force to be reckoned with, like its own spirit. This idea led me to my 2nd draft.

The 2nd draft just felt more mine when I put my name on it. I decided to stick with having my name on it, because I liked it. A clear example of positive and negative shapes, simple to carve. Turns out, the letters were too small to carve with the selected 1/16 inch DrillBit. We had to move back to draft 1.

This led me to the 3rd and final draft. This draft was better, and would actually carve. I had pressed the Carve... button and the program told me that it would take about 41 minutes, but it was worth the wait.

This was the type of tile I wanted to use for my carving. I like the part where it carves yellow so my name and the bolt were yellow.

This is how my project turned out. If I could change anything, I would make the lines on the bolt straighter. I liked the way it turned out and I think it was better than I imagined. I like the color choice I picked, and I think it fits perfectly. It would be a nice thing to hang on a wall or on my desk. I think this was a success!
