Allen Eagle Escadrille TWIB Notes NOvember 16-29, 2020

Message from Dr. Obado

Dr. Knight with our UIL trophy & score sheets: straight division 1 ratings from all judges!

Congratulations Allen Eagle Escadrille for earning straight division 1 ratings from all of our judges at the Region 25 UIL Marching Band Contest from Saturday! Making this season work with 600+ students including approximately 150 At-Home students coming to outdoor rehearsals and performances was certainly a challenge. Our safety protocols were effective all season and we performed one heck of a show this weekend! While this was not the season we expected or wanted, it will certainly be unforgettable! Seeing students look out for each other and rolling with our mitigation strategies for an absurd number of students is what makes our band extraordinary. On behalf of all the directors and staff, we are so proud of what you had done and what you have accomplished. #WeDoHardThings.

This week is our Spring Audition Window (Monday, Nov 16-Friday, Nov 20). This is required of all AHS and LFC Band students. This audition submission is also 50% of your semester exam grade. Please scroll below to the Spring Audition section.

The TMEA Phase 1 High School All-Region submission is also due this week. Links for submission/instructions were e-mailed out to the student emails listed in Charms (it may not be your AISD email). If you did not receive the link, please email philip.obado@allenisd.org as soon as possible.

Struggling trying to find something to do on Tuesday night (11/17) since we do not have a marching band rehearsal? Join the Varsity Jazz Band for an outdoor concert at the Fairview Town Center this Tuesday at 6pm. Scroll below for more information.

Marching Band Calednar

We have now finished our regular Tuesday/Thursday marching band rehearsals. We have three required full marching band events left for the season. See below.

  • NO MARCHING REHEARSALS week of 11/16-11/20
  • 11/27: Rehearsal & Game vs. Prosper (Senior Day) - 12pm Call Time
  • 12/10: Fitness Gram & Rehearsal (4:45pm-6pm)
  • 12/11: Playoff Game #1 (Home): Call Time will be 4:45pm at the track stadium for an end of season celebration before the game. We will provide dinner (food trucks) for the marching band. We will provide a secure area for students to store their school belongings if they are unable to do so.

Fall Exams & Spring Semester Auditions

FALL EXAMS: All band students will have two parts to their Fall Exam. 50% of their exam grade will be based on their audition submission (see below for details). The other 50% will be based on each individual band class's activity on their exam day (Spring 2021 music reading, Sight-Reading, etc). Students must submit their exam in Flipgrid by 11:59pm on Friday, November 20. Failure to submit will result in a 0% (50% of the exam grade). Click HERE for the AHS/LFC/STEAM Exam Schedule.

AUDITIONS: All In-Person & At-Home students will submit an audition on Flipgrid for Spring Semester Band auditions THIS WEEK (11/16-11/20). Q3 At-Home students will submit their audition for their appropriate Virtual Instrumental (Band) Music Class while Q3 In-Person students will submit their audition for their appropriate band ensemble. The audition will consist of both 9th Grade All-Region Band Audition Cuts. Students must submit their audition in Flipgrid by 11:59pm on Friday, November 20. Failure to submit an audition will result in zero points towards spring ensemble auditions.

GRADING/AUDITION RUBRIC: We will have two separate rubrics when directors assess auditions. The exam rubric will grade students based on TEKS mastery. The audition rubric will place students in proper in-person and virtual classes based on comprehensive performance elements beyond TEKS mastery.

Varsity Jazz Band Concert

Tuesday, November 17 @ 6:00pm

The Park at Fairview Town Center

Join the Allen High School Varsity Jazz Band as they perform TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 17th (6pm) at The Park at Fairview Town Center. Bring a blanket or lawn-chair while sipping on some coffee or eating on a patio at one of the nearby restaurants next to the outdoor stage.

December Concerts

Please see the schedule below for our December concerts. Each student will be able to have two guests for limited seating and distanced spacing inside the Performing Arts Center. We will also have overflow viewing in the PAC Commons if we reach capacity. All concerts will be videoed and shared on each student's CANVAS page. We are asking that all patrons come at the beginning of the concert and stay for the entire concert. There will only be two bands per concert. More information will be provided by our Performing Arts Staff.

Please note that we will not issue tuxedos and dresses for students this year. All students are required to wear all solid black for each concert. If you do not have solid black shirt, pants, skirt (appropriate length), etc. you have the time to purchase the proper attire.

All live concerts will be required for In-Person & At-Home/In-Person Band students. At-Home students may participate in the December concert based on their ensemble's minimum in-person rehearsal requirement. At-home students will have the opportunity to make a choice to perform In-Person this week. Students that do not perform In-Person for the Dec concerts will be required to perform their music on Flipgrid the day of their concert.

Individual directors may schedule before or after school rehearsals starting on November 16th. They will communicate with their bands directly regarding before/after school rehearsals.
