5. Besides newspapers Texans had access to reading materials. 6. Herman Lungkwitz was a respected artist in the 1850s.
7. Slaves like Jesse and Ester made up most of the East Texas population. 8. Slaves worked six days a week but got Sunday off.
9. Spirituals are religious folk songs. 10. Abolition an end to slavery.
