Headteacher Comment

This week, competitive, inter-school sports returned to the David Ross Education Trust and a group of highly talented Year Five and Six sports stars travelled to Grantham Stadium with Mr Hughes, Miss Bayes and Mrs Tyrrell-Smith to represent Greenfields Primary School and Nursery in the DRET Summer Cup. They competed against children from across the country who attend the other 22 DRET primary schools from Scarborough in the North to the Olympic Park in London. Our team contended the Sports Hall Athletics Trophy, the Hockey Trophy and the 100m relay and 100m sprints with ambition and determination and everyone is proud of their efforts. A special mention to Janelle, who won a bronze medal in the Year Five/Six girls 100m. The huge crowd in the stadium included young people from the DRET secondary schools too, including our Northamptonshire secondaries: Lodge Park Academy and Malcolm Arnold Academy, who were so welcoming and supportive of the younger members of the DRET familiy, wishing them good luck at every stage of the competition, and being excellent role models - their 100m time were almost Olympic standard!

Next week, I am looking forward to letting you know how our Years Five/Six and Three/Four football teams get on as they represent Greenfields in two local schools' competitions.

You might have realised that we take the enjoyment of sport really seriously at Greenfields - if your child hasn't yet signed up to one of our many sports clubs, please make sure you do. Out teachers give up their own time to run the clubs and are always keen to explore different club options so if a club that your child might enjoy is not yet on the list, please let us know so that when we plan our Spring term clubs, we can bear this in mind.

Have a lovely weekend
