Documentary Pitch "Reining Champs"

Project Description:

"Reining Champs" is a film project documenting the experience of a competitive horseback rider and his horse. This 30 minute film will immerse viewers in the rough culture of equestrianism, and provide insight towards the history of Reining, which mimics the movements of cattle wranglers in the Old West.

Competitive Reining is governed by the International Federation for Equestrian Sports. The FEI was founded in 1921, and their main function is to organize equestrian events while protecting horses fro physical abuse and drugging. Today there are 134 National Equestrian Federations in the world.

The documentary will be filmed between Sept. 2017 and May 2018.

The money would be used to buy rights for music and rent portable audio equipment. I would hire a composer to score the film, an editor, production assistants, and a marketing director. In addition, a portion of the budget will be directed towards marketing, traveling, and permits.

Fundraising Strategy:

This project mainly utilizes internet crowd-funding to collect donations on Kickstarter.

Donations will be met with a series of gifts or "Rewards" that correspond to each donation level within the range of $50-$400. There are two primary gifts, but each have their own premium-level gifts. These include "Basic and Premium Thank You Packages," "Basic and Premium Previews," and a "Video Production Diary."
