What a soggy end to what has been a very lovely week at Greenfields!
As the Indian Summer draws to an abrupt close and the Autumnal weather sets in, I'd like to just remind you to send your children well equipped for all weathers. As a school we have also to ensure that we continue to maintain good ventilation in classrooms to help reduce the possible transmission of Coronavirus whilst ensuring that your children are warm. The heating is on but there are times when the classroom may feel a little chilly, following full ventilation during the break times for example. Therefore, you may want to think about harping back to a somewhat old-fashioned way of adding warmth for your child in the form of a vest underneath their school uniform. Further guidance on our school uniform can be found on our school website: https://www.greenfields-pri.co.uk/
You'll see below that we have organised both virtual and 'in real life' open events for parents whose children are due to start school next September. Please do pass on this information to friends and family who may not read our newsletter.
Have a lovely weekend and we'll see you Monday.
This is getting extreme!
Here at Greenfields, the children are passionate about reading. Year 6 decided to kick start reading their favourite books 'extreme reading' style. Year 6 were very extreme!
In Reception, the children talked about how making bread links to the story of The Little Red Hen which they are learning this week. They also thought about where the flour comes from and spoke about the ingredients they needed to make some bread. They all enjoyed eating their bread and Maeve the School Dog, enjoyed sniffing it when the children took it home at the end of the day!
Terrific Tigers have been loving the continuous provision so far this year, especially the farm which they used the help us innovate our T4W story!
Year One Make Potions
Year 1 enjoyed listening to a story about Winnie the Witch in the forest school area and then helped Winnie by making nature wands and magic potions.
Top 10 Readers
Year Six children are being rewarded with a hot chocolate if their name appears on the school’s top 10 readers chart. Here are our first winners enjoying a treat this morning, Greenfields are really proud of them.
This week all classrooms around the school have been lucky enough to take part in singing lessons with specialist singing professionals from across the Trust. Sessions throughout the week took part via TEAMS and the children loved it. We have missed singing regularly together, so it is brilliant that enrichment experiences such as this are beginning again. Next week, you'll be able to read all about the Year 4/5 whole class instrument lessons and Shakespeare rehearsals.
Children learned all about rhythm, pulse and even began to read music notation. The songs ranged from traditional such as; ‘My Bonnie lies over the ocean’ to more modern classics like ‘Shotgun’.
It was great to hear the children sing again and they are all looking forward to the next session. And, if you look really closed at the screen shot you can see Champion Cheetahs class taking part!

Teachers are looking forward to posting their ‘Flipping Greenfields’ videos every Friday in time for the weekend. Each one is all about next week’s learning, so will get your child prepared for a flying start on Monday. Research shows that children who feel prepared for the coming week are less anxious about school, happier to get up and go on a Monday morning and achieve better than those who are not.
