Madeleine was born in Joigny, France on December 12, 1779. She passed away at age 85 on May 25, 1865 in Paris France. Her feast day is May 25, her birthday.
Madeleine is the patron saint of school girls. She founded the Society of the Sacred Heart, which focused on educating young girls, especially those who were poor. Education for young girls was in a troubled state because this was all happening during the French Revolution.
Her brother, Louis, helped educate her and later became a priest. He recommended to Madeleine to join a female part of the Jesuits. This caused her to found the Society. It spread all over France.
By the time of her death, she had opened more than 100 schools and homes in twelve countries.
St. Madeleine, please help me to focus and work hard on my tests tomorrow.
