Harlandale ISD honors Teachers of the Year
Harlandale ISD kicked off National Teacher Appreciation Week with its annual Teacher of the Year Banquet held at Paseo Real Hall on May 6.
The special dinner honored 23 outstanding educators, who were selected as their campus Teacher of the Year for their dedication and excellence in education.
Harlandale ISD welcomes new board members and announces reorganization
Harlandale ISD welcomed new board members Elaine Anaya-Ortiz, District 5, and Elizabeth F. Limon, District 6. The district also welcomed incumbent District 7 Ricardo Moreno.
Surrounded by friends, families and supporters, Anaya-Ortiz, Limon and Moreno, were sworn in during a Special Meeting of the Board of Trustees held at Harlandale ISD Central Office on May 7.
McCollum HS celebrates annual College Decision Day
More than 270 McCollum High School seniors proudly proclaimed their higher education plans during the school’s annual College Decision Day on May 8.
Administrators, teachers, family and friends filled the Main Gym to cheer on all the college-bound seniors.
MHS student completes land stewardship program
McCollum High School sophomore Elena Garza recently completed a Land Stewardship Ambassadors Program sponsored by The Witte Museum and The East Foundation. The internship took place from Jan. 27 through May 5.
Elena was one of 15 students from the San Antonio area, and the only one from Harlandale ISD, selected by a committee of Witte and East representatives.
In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, Bellaire Elementary teachers and staff enjoyed a Painting with a Twist event! Pre-K Bilingual AVANCE Teacher Gloria De Alba cut wood in pencil shapes and brought to Bellaire for teachers and staff to paint! Everyone had a blast being creative and enjoyed each other’s company!
Frank Tejeda Academy students recently participated in a presentation facilitated by San Antonio Police Department Spokesperson Doug Greene. The presentation titled “Success through Respect” is a presentation developed by SAPD to build a relationship and establish mutual trust with today's generation. A special thank you to Teen Parenting Teacher Ms. Zapata-Garcia for bringing the presentation to the FTA campus!
Congratulations to the 44 Harlandale ISD students who competed in the first annual citywide Battle of the Books held at Edgewood ISD’s Perales Elementary this past Saturday! Our students competed against SAISD, East Central and Edgewood ISD! All of our Harlandale teams did awesome! Carroll Bell Elementary earned second place, while Gilbert Elementary and Morrill Elementary tied with a school from SAISD for third place! Way to go, students!
