Significance of the Lei in Hawaiian Culture Yuri Kochiyama Cultural Center, Josephine White Eagle Cultural Center, Center for Multicultural Advancement and Student Success

AMHERST – On Thursday, April 4, the Yuri Kochiyama Cultural Center and Josephine White Eagle Cultural Center joined forces to host "Significance of the Lei in Hawaiian Culture." The event educated community members on the history of leis and pointed out examples of appropriation that have taken place within the community and society. As part of the event, participants were able to make their own leis. This event was also held in celebration of Asian/Pacific Islander American Heritage Month.
