Field hockey holds rivals scoreless in conference win The Antioch Sequoits put up strong guard to take 3-0 win against Lakes Eagles. // BY LEXI OLSON

The field hockey team played rivals Lakes Eagles on the eleventh of September. Rivalry games can be especially fun in sports for both the players and the fans.

"You never know how intense the game is going to go on you," Paige Bolton said. "Then you finally wake up and realize we have to play up and be better than the other team."

All of the players played with the intent to win and brought their energy to the field. In the first half, the Sequoits struggled to get the game going, but came out a new team in the second half.

"We picked up our energy and teamwork in the second half and scored two goals right off the bat," Hailey Webb said. "This helped because we started off a little flat in the first but got ourselves together for the second."

With a goal from Karina Steitz in the first half, the Sequoits put themselves ahead early. Two more goals followed in the second half from Carolyn Miller and Mikayla Holway.

Family and friends of the athletes brought some excitement to the stands as well. Since it was a rivalry game, there were times parents from both sides got more frustrated and would make comments on a "bad call", but everyone was there for the same reason: to cheer on their athletes.

"We all started working together and talking to each other," Bolton said. "We were able to pass to our teammates which led us to our goals."

Not only did their offensive play pick up in the second, but so did their defense. With strong defense from Molly Volkmar and Zoƫ Semersky in particular, the Eagles were left scoreless through the game.

The Sequoits were especially hyped up for their game against the Eagles. Once they found a rhythm that worked well for everyone, they were able to gain a lead and keep the Eagles away from the net, which led to their fourth win of the season.
