Viktoria's Secrets Sunil - Tech Support Engineer

Sunil / Tech Support Engineer

Sunil joined Jumio in September 2014 as Verification Expert and soon after he became a Research Analyst. Since December 2018 he has been working as Tech Support Engineer for Global Ops Tech Support (GOTS).

Q: What do you do at Jumio?

A: I am a Tech Support Engineer in GOTS (Global Ops Tech Support) and also support the Global IT department where we take care of on & off boarding, ticket management and many other OOPS tickets, queues and requests covering all departments in Jumio. GOTS comes under the Enablement Solution department which takes care of Operations technical/networking related issues and takes appropriate action to resolve under the SLA with the help of AUT IT/Prod/Dev Teams.

Q: What was Jumio’s selling point for you - What made you say “I wanna work there!”?

A: At Jumio there are so many opportunities to grow in various departments and to learn new things. I learn something new every day.

Jumio offers me the freedom to explore and it’s one of the main reasons that attracted me in the first place.

Q: Before Jumio, did you have similar experiences at previous companies or was this rather new to you when you started?

A: Before Jumio I've never worked in MNCs. The environment was pretty much new for me when I joined and I was amazed by the work culture and it is a valuable experience for me to be working with Jumio in many ways.

Q: What are the most interesting bits of the role?

A: Generally, I'd say learning is the most interesting bit of my role as well as interacting with new people and resolving their queries and to provide a solution to my best knowledge. More specifically, to support the Global IT team is the most intriguing part of my current job.

Q: What challenges did you face and what did you learn from that?

A: Initially when I moved in GOTS, I was excited as I have a bachelor's degree and I got the opportunity to work in the technical field. I never expected that I would learn so many new things and I was a bit worried about it - How am I going to manage new challenges?

Everything was new for me - the tools, queries, tasks etc. But I appreciate my manager and my team who had faith in me and I have gone through training sessions and learnt more. Now I'm able to perform my tasks in a better way.

Q: What would you say to potential employees wanting to work at Jumio? What qualities should they have?

A: Taking responsibility and owning the problems that come with it are crucial to any role that you hold. Don't give up too early, always try to learn new things, always be a good team player. You also need to be accountable and take ownership of what you’re doing. The willingness to learn is also key - no-one knows everything.

Q: What’s the secret to being good at your job?

A: Keep calm, listen and understand things carefully and then react. Listen to others, ask thoughtful questions, make suggestions, and act when you should, even when it’s “not in my duties.” People will appreciate it if you take the initiative to solve smaller problems on your own.
