Q. Who is eligible for NHS?
A. All PALCS 10th-12th grade students who have a cumulative 3.5 GPA and can demonstrate leadership, service, and character.
Q. When can I join? When is the application released?
A. All members must complete an application and interview. This process begins with the release of the application in late December. Applications are accepted for a monthly period as denoted on the PALCS school Calendar. After an applicant is accepted, they are inducted into NHS in March. Only after induction can a student join NHS.
Q. What if I transferred? Can I join NHS?
A. If you were in NHS at your prior school, please have your former advisor email Mr.. Van Hassent ( email@example.com ) with a letter stating you were in good standing. Afterward you will be added to the PALCS chapter.
Q. What do I need in order to apply besides a 3.5 GPA?
A. You need to be able to document your service to school and/or community and ways you have lead others. You will also need to secure a letter of recommendation from someone who can affirm your service, another letter of recommendation from someone who can affirm your leadership, and two teacher recommendations.
Q. Can I use any teacher for a recommendation?
A. One of the two teacher recommendations needs to be from a core teacher. A core teacher is someone that teaches the subjects of: Foreign Languages, English, Social Studies, Math, or Science.
Q. Can I use a teacher I had in the past for a recommendation?
A. Yes, provided you meet the requirements listed above.
Q. Do I have to apply for NHS every year?
Q. If I am in NJHS do I have to apply again?
A. Yes, but your NJHS membership will weigh heavily on your application.
Q. Who do I contact if I have any questions?
A. You can contact any teacher on the NHS Committee. These teachers include: Mr.Juliano, Ms. Naylor, Ms. Walsh, and Mr. VanHassent ( Committee Lead).
