National Blue Ribbon School 2020 - Harris Elementary School

Pay It Forward Day

Next week, Harris is Paying It Forward and we need your help! Wednesday, April 28 is national Pay It Forward Day. We would love for our Harris families to participate. Your child will be reading The Invisible Boy at school and each classroom will be thinking of a way to show kindness through paying it forward at school and in our community. We would like families to participate at home! Your child will be getting their own copy of the book. Please feel free to read this as a family and think of a way to pay it forward together at home. We want to see you! Please post a photo to Twitter, Facebook or Instagram with the #GCpaysitforward on Wednesday, April 28.

Spring Book Fair

Today students will bring home flyers for our spring book fair. Next week students will browse the cases and may take pictures with their iPads if there are items they are interested in purchasing. Beginning Monday, April 26 - Friday, April 30th - students may shop during their library class or other specified times. Many thanks to everyone who supported our fall book fair and helped make it such a success.

Body Safety

Indiana Senate Bill 355, which was passed in the spring 2017 state legislative session, requires all public schools in the state of Indiana to provide all students grades K-12 with child abuse and child sexual abuse prevention education. Thank you for continuing to be diligent in your efforts to keep your family and other Harris students healthy and safe. Please self screen at home and be sure that you don't send a sick child to school this year. In addition, if any member of your household has a pending COVID-19 test, you should not send your child to school until the results of that test return negative. Thanks for helping us slow the spread at this difficult time of year.

All items subject to change as new guidance is received.

School Meals for 21/22 School Year

On Tuesday April 20, 2021 the USDA issued further pandemic flexibilities for schools that support child nutrition programs nationwide. They announced that free meals and other meal service waivers have been extended through June 30, 2022. This allowance will ensure more students, whether on-site or virtual, continue to have access to free healthy meals for the entirety of school year 2021-2022.
