The Weston Weekly August 7, 2020

Good Afternoon ~ Our first full week is under our belts. The students have adjusted well to our new normal and they are hard at work in their classrooms. There are new announcements below. Please take a moment to read over them. You should also receive an email from School Dismissal Manager within the next few days. It will help us tremendously if you can set that up as soon as possible. We appreciate all of your cooperation and patience as we have welcomed students back into our building. Have a restful weekend. ~ Mrs. Welch

Attendance Clarification:

I would like to clear up some confusion on the attendance changes coming from the state. If your student is asked to stay home for 10 days by the Clinic, they will be coded in PowerSchool attendance as VIRT- COV -- Virtual Temporary due to COVID -19. This is the coding that the State of Indiana Dept. of Education has asked us to use. This coding does not mean that your student has been moved to our virtual program.

Please understand that only staff members see the attendance information. Also, it does not necessarily mean that your student has COVID-19, it just means that your student is absent due to a COVID-19 situation.

If your student is sent home for 10 days, your teacher will work with you so they can stay connected and working while they are gone.

If you have any questions, or concerns, please do not hesitate to call our main office at 317-462-1492.

Picture Day

Picture Day is September 4, 2020. Information is provided below in regards to Lifetouch pricing. **GC students enrolled in the virtual school will have their own picture day. More information to come from Mr. Davis.**

2020-2021 Return To School

Greenfield Central Re-Entry Plan ~ Please visit the GC website to read through our re-entry plan. This plan with answer many of your questions in regards to the teaching environment.

News From The Clinic

Masks: Please remember to wash your student's mask regularly. If they are in need of a temporary mask while theirs is in the wash, please let us know and we can provide them with one. We appreciate your cooperation.

News From The Clinic ~ Due to our current situation, visits to the clinic will be limited for non-urgent visitors. If you have a student prone to accidents, you are advised to pack an extra pair of clothes in their backpack. We do have designated adults in the school to assist students with these matters, if needed.

The Weston Way ~ At Weston Elementary School, our students follow our “Weston Way.” You can help by reinforcing these at home with your child! The daily expectations at Weston are simple:

1. Be Respectful

2. Be Responsible

3. Be Ready to Learn

Transportation

Arrival: Car riders, walkers, & breakfast students ~ 7:20 AM

Bus riders ~ 7:30 AM

Tardy Bell ~ 7:40 AM

Dismissal: All students ~ 2:00 PM

Transportation Changes ~ Due to changes in our bus arrival time after school and the predicted increase in car riders, the car line for grades 1st thru 3rd has moved to the North side of the building (Back of the building -Door 7). Kindergarten car line will remain on the West side (Door 3) of the building. Please see the map below. *The only transportation change allowed is from bus rider to car rider and vice versa. No special transportation requests will be honored this school year.*

*Please note the change in location for our car and bus lines. Kindergarten reports to the west side of the building*

Arrival/Dismissal Times ~

  • Doors open to walkers and car riders at 7:20 AM. Walkers will enter and exit through the main entrance. Kindergarten enters through Door 3 and grades 1 thru 3 enter through Door 7 (North side of building). Bus riders eating breakfast will be released at 7:20. All other bus riders will be released at 7:30. The tardy bell rings at 7:40.
  • Car riders will be provided with two orange signs. Please write heavy and dark the information required. We ask that you please display this in your window when proceeding through the pick-up line at dismissal. *To ensure the health and safety of everyone, there will be no walk up car riders this year. All adults must remain in their vehicles and proceed through the car line.*

School Dismissal Manager ~ Weston Elementary School uses a dismissal managing software called School Dismissal Manager (www.schooldismissalmanager.com) for all transportation arrangements and changes. Parents are able to manage where and when students go after school securely online. It is our hope that this online (or smartphone) process will make things easier for you when you have changes or recurring arrangements! For those of you who used this system last year, ALL parents will receive a new welcome letter and new login credentials within the next few days.

Ride 360 ~ New this year! You will now be able to see bus information via Ride 360 Just download the app and link your child to your account (you will need your student’s Student ID from Powerschool), then you will be able to see bus information. This can help with bus pick up in the morning and drop off times after school.

Social Work Corner ~ Mrs. Miller

Please contact Mrs. Terry Miller @ Weston Elementary if you need assistance with school supplies. She will gather needed supplies for your child and get them to your child on the first day of school. Mrs. Miller’s email address is temiller@gcsc.k12.in.us. Please indicate your child(ren)’s name and grade level in the email.

Each month at Weston Elementary, we highlight a different character trait. Students learn about the trait through morning announcements, activities, and role modeling throughout the building. As we talk about teamwork during August, we will also highlight associated characteristics involved, such as ways to be a good communicator, collaboration with others, a willingness to share new ideas, being open to feedback, and demonstrating initiative. Your child will internalize these characteristics when they are also reinforced at home. You might share a compliment such as “I liked how you looked at me while we were talking” OR “You really showed teamwork when we were working together to fix your bike”.

Milk Distribution:

Prairie Farms will be distributing free milk at the Hancock County Fairgrounds on Wednesday, 8/19 from 8:00 AM to 12:00

School Lunch & Breakfast Fees ~

Breakfast & Lunch Menus ~ Please click below to access our menus.

EZ School Pay ~ Lunch Accounts - Greenfield-Central is once again using www.ezschoolpay.com to put lunch money in your child’s lunch account (there is a small fee and you will need your child’s student number found on Powerschool). Lunch money may also be submitted by check when you come to registration. Please be sure to keep your child’s lunch account in good standing. Additionally, our cafeteria computer system does not have the capabilities to put a “block” on student lunch accounts for purchasing extra lunch items. You will want to make sure your child is on the same page as you when it comes to spending lunch account money. FYI, you can also pay textbook rental fees and iPad insurance on ezschoolpay as well!

YMCA

YMCA ~ We will still offer YMCA after school care at Weston. Please visit the link below to register your student and read more information regarding the program.
