Berlin: The city is separated into West and East Berlin and the wall is erected to separate from East Germany. This happened in the 1960's. U-2: An American U-2 spy plane was shot down over the Soviet Union and caused the U-2 Crisis of 1960. Francis Gary Powers who was performing a photographic aerial reconnaissance was shot down by S-75 Dvina (SA-2 Guideline) surface-to-air missile. It strained the relation between USSR even further. It was an important event that later got films after it.
JFK's death: President John F. Kennedy is assassinated on November 22 in Dallas by being shot in the head. It worried US citizens by having their leader shot in broad daylight. It connects to today by having one of the few presidents being assassinated. He put it into his song bc it is an important event in US history.
H-Bomb: The United States is in the middle of developing the hydrogen bomb as a nuclear weapon. It was going to be one of the first hydrogen bombs ever created. Connects to today by every country trying for a "grand gesture" to war. It was first tested in late 1952. He included it into his song bc it was one of the first more deadly bombs created besides D-Day's bombs.

Space Monkey: The flight Jupiter AM-18, Able and Miss Baker become the first two animals to be launched into space and returned to Earth alive. It showed that even animals could make it into space and return. It connects to today bc we are sending more things into space as opportunities become possible. He put it in the song bc it was a major event for space exploration. Most primates were anesthetized before lift-off.

Punk rock: Blondie and The Ramones form, with the Sex Pistols following in 1975, ushering in the punk era. Bands in early 2000's still used the "punk rock" stance with the new addition of "pop punk". It was a new genre added and it gave new spark for the music industry.1994 wasn’t just a successful year for punk, it was also an influential year for pop music, ska, country, alternative, indie, rap, hip hop, grunge, nu-metal, alternative metal, electronica and many other genres.
