November 27, 2017. On Day 5 of the 7 Day Western Caribbean Cruise with Royal Caribbean onboard the Brilliance of the Seas, I headed for Punta Sur Eco Beach Park to explore Columbia Lagoon. This was the first of several unique experiences that included a visit to the Celarain Lighthouse and a walk along the lighthouse's beach.
Columbia Lagoon is located next to the road and across from the beach. This beach area has a no swimming sign posted but do take a moment to walk in the white powder sand. The swimming beach is about twenty minutes.
Mangroves growing in the lagoon.
A red egret flew by and then landed.
There were several buzzards circling above me.
Just missed the focus on the next two photos. But the movement and character is stunning.
I had been tracking flamingos to the west when I heard the other people, who were behind me looking east, shout, Hawk! Well, I turned the body to search and attempt to track the dot with the lens. I did not have the time to track the buzzard's flight path to focus the lens.
From the observation tower, you can see people on top of Celarain Lighthouse.
My book, Pelican Beakon, earned a silver medal at 2017 Florida Authors and Publishers Association President's Book Award in the short story fiction category. The Pelican Beakon is a newspaper for pelicans, by pelicans, and their one staff human photographer who dreams of being writer. Read more about the Pelican Beakon on its website.
