Mountain View News Term 2 Week 4

Head of Wellbeing

.The Mountain View Adventist College Wellbeing Framework outlines the school’s commitment to your child’s wellbeing. We recognise that parents are an integral part of the wellbeing journey and we are keen to work with you within the framework to support and nurture your child as they grow to be connected, effective, lifelong learners. (Mountain View Wellbeing Framework 2020)

On Wednesday night we held our first Wellbeing Information Night titled 'How to Build Success in your child'. The night was filled with presentations from the wellbeing team from various areas of the school. Presenters shared about how whole school interventions can improve academic success in children. Examples were given of programs run at school, but also how threading the school values through our spiritual and academic spaces improve overall student wellbeing. Parents were encouraged to continue the learning conversations at home, encourage extracurricular experiences and have positive conversations about learning beyond the classroom.

We will be holding another information night later in the year and we encourage you to join us as we partner with you to create life-long learners in our students. In the meantime,, should you have any questions regarding the wellbeing framework at Mountain View visit the school website where you can access the framework under the parent portal tab.

Our vision is to be a learning community that promotes wholistic life-long learning for today, tomorrow and into the future. We are proud to be on that journey and we hope that you will be a part of it too.

Creative Arts

Junior Music

The introduction of the new junior music stream in 2021 has seen many benefits. Students are passionate and have displayed a positive attitude to developing a knowledge of musical concepts through playing a range of musical instruments such as the piano, drums and ukulele. Teaching staff within the department are looking forward the future as we watch our students grow.

The department would also like to welcome Mr Ropati (Music) and Mrs Furney (Art) to the team. We would like to thank them for their contribution to the faculty thus far as it has been great to have both teachers lead in the enhancement of our students learning.

OnStage InClass

Last Tuesday, HSC Drama students got to experience a virtual version of the NESA OnStage program. Every year, exemplary HSC Drama projects and performances are staged for the benefit of current HSC students.

Due to COVID restrictions, the program was delivered online this year. Drama students were able to watch last year’s students perform their monologues, have their scripts enacted, showcase their design projects and see their video dramas.

The most rewarding feature was an interview panel with the exemplar students who offered advice for this year’s cohort. At the end of the program, our HSC students described the experience as “inspiring”. We wish all our HSC Drama students every success in this busy year.

Mountain View Archibald

In Visual Arts this term Year 11 students are creating large scale portraits influenced by the Archibald Prize. Each student has chosen a member of the school community as a way of thanking them for the contribution they make to the school.

Over a delicious morning tea each student interviewed and photographed their potential models in preparation for their masterpieces. Getting to know their chosen person is vital in capturing the personality and character of the sitter.

Thankyou to Mr. Guevarra, Mr. Carrasco, Mr. Calandra, Mr. Jensen, Miss Rankin, Mrs Watson, Mrs Masters, Mrs Jensen, Mrs Tamano, Miss Wright-Hill and Mrs Vakalalakoro for kindly agreeing to take part in this exciting art project.

School Banking is a fun, interactive and engaging way to help teach your child about money. Children who deposit money into their Youthsaver account through School Banking earn Dollarmites tokens, which they can save up and redeem for exciting rewards.

The rewards available during 2021 are:

o Terry Denton’s Activity Book o Scented Stackable Highlighters
