Mason Club Sports Post competition report May 6-7

TAEKWONDO

Taekwondo competed at the U.S. Capital Open Taekwondo Championship at Woodgrove High School this past Sunday against Majest Martial Arts and Dragon Yong-In Martial Arts. Unfortunately, Mason fell to both teams (6.42-6.89, L) and (9-24, L) , but Cody Pasielski and Marcus Patterson were able to both claim 2nd in their divisions.

Men's Ultimate

'16-'17 Men's Ultimate at Regionals

Men's Ultimate competed in Axton, VA to compete in the Atlantic Coast D-1 Men's Regionals. The team went 2-4 in the tournament with wins over Maryland and Delaware. After the team placed the highest in program history at the sectional tournament taking 5th, they went into the regional tournament seeded 11th and finishing 10th overall. It has been 3 seasons since George Mason Ultimate has made regionals and this is the first time the men's and women's team have both made regionals at the same time! Sam Gabrielson was voted team MVP for the regional tournament for taking over hard points with great throws, fantastic composure, and hype for some awesome plays. Teammate Jeremy Steinel commented, "It was great to see him play one of his best tournaments against top teams when it mattered most."

WOMEN'S ULTIMATE

'16-'17 Men's and Women's Ultimate at Regionals

Women's Ultimate took their talents to Axton, VA to compete at the Atlantic Coast D-1 Women's Regionals. It was the team's second time making it to regionals and were ready to play more difficult teams. While Saturday proved to have its share of ups and downs, the team buckled down on Sunday, ready to play in the 9th place bracket. Mason held their own for a while against the #5 seed, UNCW, as they continued to play their game and focus on keeping their spirit and intensity up the entire time. The ladies finished the tournament 1-4 and held their seed at 11. The team noted that it was a bittersweet way to end their season. Notable highlights include: Taylor "Pickles" Forlenza holding onto the disc and scoring a goal against American.
