WCPS week 3 W/E 19/09/19

This week our Junior Wardens visited Cannon Hall Farm. What an experience!

Hello to all our families and pupils!

We have had another brilliant week, so many exciting learning experiences happening through school all week. From visiting vikings to parents in playing maths games with their children, it’s been such fun!

We’ve had a number of different visitors this week and they have all commented on how polite and friendly our children are and it makes me so proud!

Thank you to everyone for making me feel so welcome so quickly and if you’ve not been to speak to me while I’m out at the front of school at drop off and pick up please do come and say hello!

Attendance has been positive this week

although overall attendance for September still remains slightly below target at

Please can we try and get it above target next week. Colds are starting to kick in but we are asking you to support positive attitudes towards attendance even with sniffles.

As I mentioned one of our priorities for the whole school is improving reading so I’m going to use this news letter to share some of the amazing things happening across school to promote, teach and develop reading.

Mrs Paddock

Well done to last week’s Smartie Pants winners! We enjoyed #hotchocolatewiththehead before being the assembly stars!

We can’t wait for this week’s afternoon tea!

Nursery are calling for help!
Reading can even happen in the forest
Class 1
This week Class 1 have been reading Oi Frog! The children love it, here’s what they said. “You can guess what’s next because it rhymes.” Oliver C. “It’s funny at the end, when it goes splat.” Harry “The pictures tell you what it’s going to say.” Ignacja. Some children have also shared the book with their parents at drop off and read it together on the carpet.
Class 2
Alex and Elias were in the reading tent enjoying ‘Supertato’ story. They were taking it in turns to read a page each. The boys said- Elias - “Look he has a cape on like superman” Alex – “He is funny” Alex – “He’s going to get the baddies” The boys were laughing and looking at the pictures whilst making up parts of the story.
Class 3

Class 3 have been ‘reading for pleasure’. We have picked our books from our book bags or the library to read. Class 3 are doing brilliantly with their independent reading!

Class 4

CIRP children have been using “We’re going on a bear hunt” to theme their learning experiences this week.

Year 5

In Guided Reading we looked at a fiction text called ‘Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes’. It was a story but also a poem because it rhymed. We really enjoyed this text because it was different to the traditional fairytale and it was really fun! We compared this version to the original, gave our opinions and discussed why Roald Dahl has Little Red Riding Hood wear the wolf skin coat.

We enjoyed it that much we made Mrs Wigglesworth-Fisher read us more ‘Revolting Rhymes’ for story time!

Year 6
Bedtime story packs are being delivered to classrooms for families to enjoy hot chocolate and a bedtime story!

Year 5 were lucky enough to have a Viking experience day! The children were so absorbed and learnt lots!

Year 2 Maths coffee morning was really well attended and we got some fantastic feedback from you all. Thank you for those of you who left us feedback in our gratitude jar!
