Department of State: department of the government responsible for making foreign affairs, deal with passports and visa

In the interest groups, Keep America Safe works with the Department of State. In the federal bureaucracy, it is the oldest executive department created. In Congress, the department of state is a Cabinet level department that operates under the executive branch of the government.

Department of Treasury: deals with money, national debt, and collecting texts

An interest group or groups that participate in this is G7 and the G20. In Congress, it is separated into two major components called the departmental offices and the operating bureaus. In the federal bureaucracy, they manage the federal finances and government accounts/public debts.

Department of Defense: deals with national security, considers the secretaries of army, navy, and air force

Leon E Panetta

An interest group that works with the Department of Defense would be the American Security Council Foundation. In the federal bureaucracy, the Secretary of Defense is the principal defense policy adviser to the President. In Congress, the Department of Defense is America's oldest and largest government agency.

Department of Justice: investigates violations of federal laws, prosecutes cases before courts, administers naturalization laws, enforces immigration laws

Loretta Lynch

An interest group that works with the Department of Justice is the Antitrust Division. In the federal bureaucracy, the Office of the Attorney General was created by the Judiciary Act of 1789. In Congress, the Department of Justice handles all criminal prosecutions and civil suits.

Department of Interior: controls public lands, controls the public parks, controls reservations and water resources.

Ryan Zinke

Special interest groups from the roads, railroads, and other infrastructure work with the Department of Interior. In the federal bureaucracy, it plays a key role in regulations that advance science and technology. In the Congress, Ryan Zinke championed conservation, forest management, and responsible energy development.

Department of Agriculture: federal developing of executing U.S federal government policy on farming, agriculture, and food

Mike Johanns

An interest group that works with the Department of Agriculture would include the Farmers Market Coalition. In the federal bureaucracy, more than 140 billion dollars goes into the Food and Nutrition Service. In Congress, the largest component is the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

Department of Labor: determines standards of labor, publishes employment info, directs public-employment services

Thomas E. Perez

An interest group would the the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations. In the federal bureaucracy, it advances opportunities for profitable employment. In Congress, it focuses on issues raised by wage earners, job seekers, and retirees of the United States.

Department of Commerce: supervises trade and promotes business and tourism

Penny Pritzker

An interest group would be the People for the American Way. In the federal bureaucracy, there would be the Department of Commerce Bureau of Industry and Security. In Congress, they would work in a business-oriented lobbying atmosphere.

The Department of Transportation

Year Founded: It was established by an act of Congress on October 15, 1966, and began operation on April 1, 1967.

Mission of the department: The mission of the Department is to: Serve the United States by ensuring a fast, safe, efficient, accessible and convenient transportation system that meets our vital national interests and enhances the quality of life of the American people, today and into the future.

Example of the Iron Triangle: It is governed by the United States Secretary of Transportation, House of reps would be where it is tied with congress because the house is the closest to the people who use the roads and public transportation daily, and the Interest group related to the DOT is the Transportation safety advancement group.

Department of Housing and Urban Development

The mission of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is to create strong, sustainable, inclusive communities and quality affordable homes for all.

Founded on September 9, 1965

Henry Cisneros became the first Hispanic HUD Secretary in 1993. Julian Castro was confirmed by Senate on July 9, 2014, and assumed office on July 28, 2014, succeeding Shaun Donovan, who was nominated to be the next Director of the Office of Management and Budget.

Example of Iron Triangle: Would be tied to Senate committee on appropriations, an interest group that supports the department of HUD is the ABA Commission on Homelessness and Poverty, and the related piece of the federal bureaucracy would be the Dept. of Transportation because the two departments rely heavily on each other in order to improve the standard of living and commerce in the areas.

The Department of Health and Human Services

The mission of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is to enhance the health and well-being of Americans by providing for effective health and human services and by fostering sound, sustained advances in the sciences underlying medicine, public health, and social services.

The Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (HEW) was created on April 11, 1953, when Reorganization Plan No. 1 of 1953 became effective. HEW thus became the first new Cabinet-level department since the Department of Labor was created in 1913.
Dr. Thomas E. Price was sworn in as the 23rd Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) on February 10, 2017. He brings to the Department a lifetime of service and a dedication to advancing the quality of health care in America – both as a physician and policymaker.

Examples in the Iron Triangle: The interest group largely related to the department is Blue Cross and Blue shield, the relation to congress would be the HOR's appropriations committee, and the public commission tie would be with President Jimmy Carter's Presidential Commission on Mental Health which was intended to recommend policies to overcome obvious deficiencies in the mental health system.

The Department of Energy

Dr. Ernest Moniz served as United States Secretary of Energy from May 21, 2013 to January 19, 2017. As Secretary of Energy, he was tasked with implementing critical Department of Energy missions in support of President Obama's goals of growing the economy, enhancing security and protecting the environment.

The mission of the Energy Department is to ensure America's security and prosperity by addressing its energy, environmental and nuclear challenges through transformative science and technology solutions.

Examples in the Iron Triangle: In congress, the HOR's committee on appropriations, the independent regulatory agency the EPA, and the interest group most closely associated would be the Business Council for Sustainable Energy.

The Department of Education

ED's mission is to promote student achievement and preparation for global competitiveness by fostering educational excellence and ensuring equal access.

Congress established the U.S. Department of Education (ED) on May 4, 1980, in the Department of Education Organization Act (Public Law 96-88 of October 1979).

In Congress: The House of Representatives also voted to throw out a lot of rules that were decided on just last year. These rules tell states how to comply with the new federal education law with regard to identifying and improving underperforming schools, as well as evaluating teacher-preparation programs in higher education.

In the Federal Bureaucracy: The independent agency NSF, The National Science Foundation (NSF) is a United States government agency that supports fundamental research and education in all the non-medical fields of science and engineering.

Interest group: American Federation of Teachers

The Department of Veterans Affairs

Mission Statement: To fulfill President Lincoln's promise "To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan" by serving and honoring the men and women who are America's veterans.

The Honorable David J. Shulkin was nominated by President Trump to serve as the ninth Secretary of Veterans Affairs (VA) and was confirmed by the United States Senate on February 13, 2017

Examples in the Iron Triangle: The Veterans Health Administration is connected with this department and the federal bureaucracy. In congress, there is a HOR committee on veterans affairs. An interest group involved in this department is the American Legion.

The Department of Homeland Security

Founded on November 25, 2002

Mission: The Department of Homeland Security was formed after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, as part of a national effort to safeguard the United States against terrorism

Jeh (pronounced "Jay") Charles Johnson (born September 11, 1957) is an American civil and criminal trial lawyer, who was the fourth United States Secretary of Homeland Security 2013 to 2017. He was the General Counsel of the Department of Defense from 2009 to 2012 during the first Obama Administration.
