Mission Updates October, 2021

We thank God for His faithfulness to Eddie & Barbie Broussard, who serve Him with The Navigators, a worldwide ministry making disciples in 102 countries.

Eddie serves on The Navigators' executive team, and is especially vital in his role with Eurasia and Latin America. The Broussards also serve in leadership and encouragement for the Global Student Program, which trains young leaders from around the world. Meet Eddie in the Life Center the weekend of October 2nd and 3rd!

Praise Reports:

  • In July, Eddie was able to minister the Word of God to a group of college students from 5 Rocky Mountain states.
  • Eddie and Barbie are grateful for Eddie's continued recovery and return to work after 10 months of rehab following his double knee replacements and a bout with Covid.
  • Their team was able to minister online to over 60 young adults from 16 countries this summer through the Global Student Program. The students were divided into teams for weekly online Bible study, personal one-on-one time with team leaders, and online chats to share from their mid-week readings and video assignments.
  • After 2-3 years of prayer asking God to raise up more workers for Eurasia, God is answering! This year, The Navigators have seen 8 new Navigator missionaries plan to leave their homes in the US or The Netherlands to move to countries in Eurasia. Two are already in place and six are hard at work preparing to depart.
  • They have also seen preparations to receive new missionaries in Russia, Ukraine, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan.
  • The Navigators sent one missionary FROM Eurasia to plant the gospel among native Kazakhs and Turkmen living in a 3rd country. "In the same way, the gospel is bearing fruit and growing throughout the whole world—just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly understood God’s grace." Colossians 1:6
  • Praise God for a successful time of The Nav's International Executive Team and 7 Regional Directors connecting virtually last week!

Prayer Requests:

  • Please pray for Eddie & Barbie to have greater desire and passion to know and worship the Lord, and to have deeper times in His Word!
  • Pray for grace for Eddie as he continues to learn Spanish and Russian. He's memorizing The Navigators' Topical Memory System in Russian and is 20% done!
  • Continue to ask for complete healing in both his knees.
  • The Global Student Program is transitioning next year to an online program AND an in-person program to be held here in Colorado Springs. Pray for the selection of new leaders for each section, and for the leaders to be fruitful and effective!
  • For The Navigators as they select a new President of the US Navigators. Pray for God's will!
  • Pray for the Lord to raise up even MORE new workers to go and serve in the ripe mission fields of Eurasia! "Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” Matthew 9:38

Fall Jam Fest '21

"I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest." John 6:34

Are you looking for ways to serve and get involved in spreading the gospel here and now? Volunteer & invite others to one of CWC's biggest outreaches of the year: Fall Jam Fest!

If you can hand out candy, make hot dogs, sweep a floor, or smile and greet a child, you can be a part of this year's Jam Fest. Every year, God brings unbelievers who come for free candy, but leave having heard the gospel! Sunday, October 31st, at 4:30 pm.

Afghani Refugees

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in... Matthew 25:35

God is bringing many Afghan refugees to Colorado Springs to live as our neighbors. Our church will play a key role in welcoming one family in and showing them the love of Christ. Come learn how you can be part of the team on Sunday, 10/24, at 2 pm in the High School Room in the Student Building, or email michellej@cwccs.org for more information!

CWC Missionary Mike continues to minister in the Middle East, including to Christian refugees from Afghanistan and those still trapped in the country.

His ministry partner in Afghanistan has decided to stay, along with his family, to help his people. They are safe right now, but please pray for this brave Christian brother as he takes supplies to other families in Afghanistan.

Mike's team has also joined with other ministries to bring targeted believers out of Afghanistan. Please pray for these dangerous and complicated missions.

Life Equip Global - Uganda

Life Equip Global continues to train pastors and church leaders from Uganda, India, and other countries around the world to meet families dealing with crisis pregnancies. These families receive care and comfort, information about their baby's development & the dangers of abortion, and the gospel of Jesus Christ.

  • Last month, Kariuki Peter, one of the pastors taking the current 10-week training, taught 400 students on the dangers of abortion.
  • A recent conference for pregnancy centers and pro-life ministries led to 25 men and women signing up as interested in becoming Life Advocate Trainers, who will be able to train other pastors and leaders in the future.
  • At least one new 10-week training group is being added every week!

Please pray:

  • For the pastors currently in training.
  • For more and more people to sign up to train and provide the classes for others.
  • For good partnerships with like-minded ministries in Africa and around the world.
  • For women struggling with sin, grief, and shame to experience the life-changing grace and redemption of Jesus.

Happy Rosh HaShana (Jewish New Year) from Pastor Zechariah Arni and the congregation he leads in Haifa, Israel!

Praise Reports:

  • Pastor Zechariah and his wife, Almaz, recently celebrated their 20th Anniversary!
  • Praise God that the congregation has been able to serve an increasing number of people in need through food aid and evangelism on the streets of Haifa.
  • They are seeing many young people searching for the meaning of life including 9 youth who came to faith through broadcasts on Zoom and YouTube. More young people are attending their weekly meetings.

Prayer Requests:

  • The current youth leader is a volunteer. Please pray that the congregation will be able to pay him a salary.
  • Please pray for continued fruit and expanded development of the media ministry!
Matt & Jonna

Matt & Jonna, who serve in Central Asia through sports outreach with their 4 young children, are grateful to be back on the other side of the world!

They recently returned to their home after an extended furlough in the US due to Covid travel restrictions.

Praise God that:

  • the family is happy to be back home, and the 3 oldest children (3rd, 5th, and 8th graders) were thankful to return to in-person school with their friends.
  • their local friend, "Gerry", whom you prayed for last month. Gerry accepted Christ at the end of 2020, but has had a difficult time in the army with no Christian fellowship around. Praise God Gerry was able to visit their city last month to receive dental work and connect with local brothers in Christ.

Please pray:

  • for continued wisdom and health in the children's international school.
  • for Gerry to have supernatural power to remain faithful, resist temptation, and grow in the Lord as he returns to his home.
  • for their young friend "Annie" and her husband "Yacob". Annie is a believer but her husband is not. Please pray that Yacob will be drawn to Jesus as he interacts with local believers. Ask that Annie will walk closely with God and be intentional about getting Yacob around believers.
  • for their football team to respond to "the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ who is the image of God" (2 Corinthians 4:4)
Jonatan Simons - Colombia

There are many praises from Jonatan & Teresa Simons, serving in Medellin, Colombia!

  • Jon taught 3 classes this term and is adding a 4th class next term. He loves being in the classroom, and loves dialoguing with the students and helping the ask hard questions and find the answers in Scripture.
  • He officially received his doctorate!
  • The kids (Caedmon, Norah, and Lina) are growing in their confidence using Spanish. They are also starting to build friendships in this new country.
  • They received their entire shipment of boxes after several months of waiting and wondering after a move from Australia to the US to Colombia.

Please pray:

  • Pray for their words and interactions with staff and students to be seasoned with the grace and love of Jesus!
  • For their internet to be installed soon, as that severely impacts their ability to connect with friends and family.
  • For their Colombian health insurance to be sorted.
  • For good, solid friendships for each member of the family, especially the children.
  • For their Spanish skills to grow and for them to find the right tutors for the children.
  • For the university to know how best to conduct classes during Covid - how to care for students, develop community life, and foster spiritual and academic growth. For the staff and students to be unified and humble in Christ.
Matt & Noelle Harris - Uganda

Praise God for the progress on the new Pastoral Training School building in Uganda! God has provided a beautiful area of land with great farmland right next to the home of Matt & Noelle Harris. Walls are going up and the roof will come soon. Please keep praying for Matt & Noelle as Matt oversees the building and works on developing curriculum and a new soccer outreach program.

Janice Evans - Ukraine

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

Thank God for showing this verse true in Janice Evans' life this month! Her month-long struggle to renew her Ukrainian visa was useful this month as she was able to coach another missionary in going to Turkey to get a visa.

Rejoice with Nolan & Marie Schockey as they look back at 10 years of their pastors-in-training ministering to the Juarez, Mexico municipal police! Praise Him also for continually giving open doors for service to migrants and first responders.

Please pray:

  • for Marie as she travels with 2 other pastors' wives to California for a Calvary Chapel Pastors' Wives' Conference. Pray for rest and refreshment as they bathe in the Pacific and the Word of God!
  • for Nolan's health as he continues to struggle with his blood pressure and dizziness. Pray for clear answers and treatment from the doctors he is seeing.
  • for discernment as they minister to the 13 Mexican men in their program. Pray for the men to dig deep in the Word during their weekly Bible Studies, and for physical and mental health and growth.
  • for soft hearts in the migrants, that they will hear the gospel and respond.
Mathare Valley Slum - Nairobi, Kenya

Thank God for the continued witness of Mathare Worship Centre and Hope's Promise - Sanctuary of Hope in Mathare Valley Slum in Nairobi, Kenya.

Please Pray:

  • for George, Peter, and Victor as they continue to pursue the next steps in their education after graduating from high school.
  • for the selection of new children and families for the Kuza program, which supports relative-based care in Mathare Valley.
  • for a new staff member, Bridgitt, who will manage Kuza with Pastor Steve Kariithi.
