Friday, April 28, 2017:Describe the Beast that seems to be stalking the island. Use the text as backup for your info
The younger boys on the island have claimed to see the ''Beast". Phil descried the beast as "big and horrid'' (85). The littluns also said the beast came out at night (85). Another thing Percival said about the beast is that it lives in water (85). Sam and Eric have just claimed to see the beast while watching the fire. Sam describes the beast by saying "It was furry. There was something moving behind its head" (100). The twins also said the beast had wings, it sat up, there were eyes, teeth and claws(100). It also chased the twins and almost touched Eric(100). Jack and Ralph haven't seen this "beast" but they believe it lives on the tail end of the island due to they have never been to that end of the island.
Monday, May 1, 2017:Name at least two things the boys are doing or have given up that show how they are now operating on instinct and no longer trying to follow the rules of society. Explain your answers with information from the text.
Since the boys have been on the island for awhile they're starting to do what they please and not go by the rules. One rule they're breaking is communicating effectively. "I got the conch-" "Conch! Conch!"(101). Either they're talking out of turn or all shouting out at once. Another rule they're breaking is to not go out at night. "Did anyone go out?" "I wanted-to go to a place-a place I know"(85). The boys have broken a few of their rules since they've been on this island.
Thursday, May 4, 2017:Two rituals people are most familiar with are weddings and funerals. Pick an event (a wedding or a funeral). Make a list of at least 3 phrases people use at the event you picked. Using one of your phrases, explain why your phrase is helpful in the situation.
"Something Olde, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue, A Sixpence in your Shoe"
"Today is a celebration. A celebration of love, of commitment, of friendship, of family, and of two people who are in it for forever."
A ritual is something used at celebrations or at times of sorrow. Weddings have many things said at every wedding. One of the more famous sayings is "I do" because, that saying is the piece the soon newly wed say to confirm they want to be in this relationship together. The phrase chosen is one of the most iconic sayings at a wedding. The couple says "I do" because they're the ones confirming their marriage and not the minister. This specific phrase is one of the few things said by the duo at their wedding. After they each say "I do" and the ceremony is over they're starting a new life together.
Monday, May 8, 2017:Choose a character, either Ralph or Jack and explain the effect seeing the Beast has on the character you have chosen. Use textual information to support your answer.
Ralph, Jack and Roger have claimed to see the beast, seeing the beast has had different effects on all. The character I have chosen is Jack. After seeing the beast Jack wants to make a sacrifice to it. "This head is for the beast. It's a gift"(Golding 137). Jack has started his own left the group he's in and started his own. Jack wants to please the beast, he thinks he has done so by giving the beast the head of a pig. "Jack held up the head and jammed the soft throat down on the pointed end of the stick which pierced through into the mouth"(Golding 136). Jack has been trying to please the beast for awhile when he's part of a beast himself...
Thursday, May 11, 2017:Retell in your own words what has happened to Simon. Use textual evidence to help you create a vivid paragraph.
Simon has witnessed the sacrifice of a pig, and has seen the dead pilot up on the mountain and he is the peacemaker of the boys. Everyone was at Jacks feast and doing their rituals when Simon walked in. Someone claimed he was the beast, so they let him in their circle they were dancing in. He was standing in the center which is where the kill goes. Since everyone thought he was the beast he was beaten to death by everyone on the island. His body then fell and was dragged into the ocean by the waves. "Simon's dead body moved out toward the open sea"(Golding 154). Simon is the second boy to be killed so far while being on the island.
