Tips for talking to Kids About the Coronavirus Outbreak

Some of our students expressed some anxiety about the outbreak and what may happen to them and those they love. We referenced these Bible verses to help give our children some peace and confidence that we don’t have to respond to this virus with fear or anxiety. We trust in the Lord our God!

Let’s put our trust in God.

This is God’s world. He has created it and everything in it. Yes, sometimes bad things happen that make it seem like the world is going crazy and everything is out of control. But God created the world and everything in it. We can trust Him and we do not need to be afraid. We need to be smart.

Let’s be smart.

We can be smart about dealing with this virus by listening to the instructions that experts give us. We should cover our mouths and noses with our elbows when we cough or sneeze. We should try to keep our hands clean and also keep them away from our mouths, eyes and nose to prevent germs that cause this illness from getting into our body. We can also limit our contact with others so we don’t pass these germs around.

Let’s love our neighbors.

We can be loving to our neighbors while things progress with this virus. The best thing we can do is pray for those around us. We can also remember that following the guidelines that our leaders give us is not only to protect us but also protect others. This may also be a good time to send notes, cards, pictures or crafts through the mail to elderly people who may be isolated because of the virus.

And just to lighten the mood during this stressful time...
