An Update from WESD APRIL 2021

Dear WESD Partners and Key Communicators,

It is hard to believe that the final quarter of the school year has arrived. We have come so far since August because of the support we received from partners like you. Truly, your support has allowed us to overcome obstacles we never imagined that we would be facing. It is incredible what we can accomplish when we work together. On behalf of the WESD, thank you for all you have done and continue to do for our students, families and staff.

WESD continues to support those students who chose distance learning for the remainder of the year. We are committed to the well-being of all of our students.

Lowering Class Sizes

Knowing students will have a variety of individual needs next year, the WESD will be lowering class sizes at all grade levels, with an emphasis in our primary classrooms. This is to ensure each child gets their individual needs met and to personalize our work with your child. Please share with your friends who may have an interest in what choices the WESD offers.

Now Enrolling Families for the 2021 – 2022 School Year

WESD is enrolling kindergarteners for the 2021-2022 school year. We offer some of the lowest teacher to student ratios in the area to ensure that your child receives personalized attention. Our free, full day program addresses reading, writing, math, science, social studies, physical education and art with plenty of time for exploration and play. You can learn more about our program, meet our teachers and take virtual tours by visiting www.wesdschools.org/kindergarten. Please share this information with your friends and neighbors who have children turning five before September 1st.

Enrollment is also open for all other grade levels. Those who live outside district boundaries may still attend WESD schools through open enrollment. To learn more or to register online visit https://www.wesdschools.org/registration.

WESD Launches #StrongerTogether Social Media Campaign

Although we have been physically apart for much of the school year, we have continued to work and grow together. Despite these challenging times, our WESD Family has accomplished and continues to accomplish amazing things. To celebrate our successes from the 2020 – 2021 school year, I am excited to announce the launch of WESD’s new social media campaign, #StrongerTogether. I invite our community to join us in this celebration by submitting your success stories or your student’s success stories to https://bit.ly/FamilyStudentSucess or https://bit.ly/TeacherStaffSuccess to be shared on the WESD social media accounts.

An Act of Kindness

I would like to thank Desert Financial Credit Union and the Fiesta Bowl for their generous act of kindness. As part of their Kindness Arizona tour, they upgraded the teachers’ lounge at Maryland Elementary School with new furniture, fresh paint, a water filtration system, a new refrigerator with an icemaker and a massage chair. In addition to all of this, they provided bags of supplies to teachers. We are so grateful for their generosity, Maryland teachers and staff will be enjoying this space for years to come. Thank you for supporting our schools.

Connect with the WESD

I invite our community to connect with us on social media (@wesdschools) to stay updated on the day-to-day happenings in our district. We regularly share good news about our students and staff as well as district updates. You can also visit us at our Web site https://www.wesdschools.org/ to learn more about our district, programs and services.

I am looking forward to finishing the school year with you all. We could not have made it here without you. Thank you for your continued support of the WESD.

Gratefully,

Paul
